#Riga is not only a vibrant cultural hub but also a dynamic center for business innovation. 📊 Here are the key highlights from the Latvian startup ecosystem over the past year: • In 2023, Riga's startups attracted €14.7 million in investments; • Riga-based startups paid €51.4 million in taxes - 90% of all tax payments from Latvian startups, showcasing their substantial contribution to the local economy; • With a turnover of €221.1 million, Riga's startups employed 2,898 people - making up 85% of the total startup workforce in Latvia; • Funding rounds show a decrease in capital attracted by Latvian startups, however, the actual scenario is more optimistic. Similar trends of reduced investment were observed in neighbouring countries in 2023; • Riga invested €635,000 in its startup ecosystem in 2023, with plans to invest €595,000 in 2024. These funds support various programs, including incubators, accelerators, and relocation programs; • Riga's startup scene is improving in gender diversity. 25% of startups have at least one female shareholder, up from 9% in 2020. Despite high failure rates, the number of early-stage startups has soared from 7,800 in 2015 to over 35,000 in 2024. 🚀 Here's why Europe is brimming with potential: → Over 300 unicorns now call Europe home (yes, unicorns!). → A vibrant ecosystem that's filled with opportunities & talent. → A diverse market, eager for fresh and innovative ideas. What is the motivation behind this growth.? It seems that strict regulations and diverse markets encourage startups to innovate and adapt faster. The barriers might be affecting some companies but they also encourage creativity and resourcefulness.
