Real cause for optimism here. Palm oil represents a huge risk and driver of deforestation. I've spoken with people in the past working to reduce the monoculture natures of plantations, bringing communities back to the regions where it's grown intensively and that is all well and good. But for such a ubiquitous substance used in so many products across different sectors, diversifying monocultures will only get us so far, as demand will outstrip available space. If you can make a comparable product using 99% less space and 90% less inputs (energy or materials), that's a top tier win. #PalmOil
💰💰 Investment News!! 💰💰 Meet NoPalm Ingredients, who is on a mission to revolutionize the industry with local, circular, and sustainable oils as alternatives to palm oil. 🌱 The Big Idea: NoPalm has developed a yeast based fermentation process to produce low cost oils & fats, perfect substitutes for palm oils in food, cosmetics, and home care products. August was a landmark month for BioUs, where our commitment to innovation and sustainability shone through. Leveraging advanced technology to upcycle agricultural waste, we continue to redefine what's possible in the circular bioeconomy. By transforming waste into high-value bioproducts such as fertilizers and 100% biodegradable bioplastics, we've successfully slashed production costs by up to 50%—a testament to our efficient and cutting-edge processes. Our journey took us to several key industry events this month. We proudly secured a TOP 03 position at the 1st Sebrae Award during the Startup Summit in Florianópolis, SC. Additionally, our approval for InvesDay by ABStartups in São Paulo enabled us to present our groundbreaking solutions to a network of angel investors and VCs, fostering strategic connections. At the ANPEI Conference, also in São Paulo, we continued to forge valuable partnerships, while our participation at Campo Lab in Goiânia, GO, opened up meaningful dialogues on advancing agricultural practices. We capped off the month at SP Climate Week, engaging in impactful discussions with leaders from the agricultural and food industries. These milestones reaffirm that BioUs is on the right path—mitigating the Greenhouse Effect and pioneering new frontiers in the agricultural, industrial, and health sectors. As an Impact Deep Tech company, we remain dedicated to developing sustainable biomaterial production systems from organic waste, significantly reducing operational costs while championing environmental stewardship. August may have ended, but our journey is just beginning. Stay tuned as we continue to lead the way in sustainable innovation. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #DeepTech #Innovation #Bioeconomy #ClimateAction #Agriculture #Bioplastics #ImpactTech

Nerd Alert! 🙋♂ People close to me know I have always been a bit of a nerd for nature 🤓. Biodiversity is also one of the planetary boundaries that is heavily transgressed, and, unfortunately, one of the hardest topics to find suitable VC investment cases for. Today is a great day as I am happy to share that Rubio Impact Ventures has invested in NoPalm Ingredients. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: At scale, NoPalm can curb the immense pressure on our rainforests. Despite all good efforts for certified palm oil, the real systemic change comes from not producing palm oil in these very vulnerable places on earth. Palm oil-driven land use change threatens catastrophic loss of richly biodiverse equatorial rainforests and is responsible for more emissions every year than the entire airline industry. 🙉 🙊 🙈 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗩𝗖 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲? I had the pleasure to present our annual Food for Climate report at last week’s HackSummit in Lausanne. For the last two years, FoodLabs has teamed up with Dealroom.co to publish a report outlining the state of Food- & Ag-Tech funding in Europe. Some highlights: 💹 For the first time, European funding for the sectors surpassed that of the US. With European ventures raising ca. 58% of all funding, new European champions are on the rise. 🍄 Mycelium continues to attract funding given the strong consumer propositions of clean label and high protein, coupled with favourable regulation compared to cell-based counterparts. Companies such as Infinite Roots® and Bosque Foods are two innovators to watch in the space. ☕ With surging commodity prices in cocoa and coffee, we see an influx of capital into companies developing alternatives. Given pressures to safeguard supply, corporates are more willing to partner with young startups, such as Minus: A Compound Foods Company, Win-Win or Planet A Foods. 👩🌾 Agricultural innovation is no longer restricted to biotechnology, with platform and financing plays enabling the transition to regenerative practices taking the lion's share of funding, as seen by the likes of Agreena and Klim. 🍚 We expect rice production to be the next frontier in sustainable farming. More than 50% of the global population is dependent on it as their food staple, and it produces more than 12% of global methane emissions. Companies such as MittiLabs, AgriG8, and Rize are early movers in this category. … for more insight, make sure to check out the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dDbnYj5A Thanks again, Arman Anatürk and the entire HackSummit team, for organising such a fantastic event. Patrick Noller, Florian Breiner, Christophe Maire, Christian Guba, Julius Strauss, Nicolaus Norden, Valeria Do, Darius Zarrabian, Jonathan Uthe-Spencker, Ann-Cathrin Schulz
