Saudi Arabia’s new airline, Riyadh Air | طيران الرياض, has officially begun operating noncommercial flights as part of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process, a key requirement set by the GACA - General Authority of Civil Aviation - Saudi Arabia). The airline’s first flight, RX5001, flew from Riyadh to Jeddah, with plans for additional rotations to domestic and international destinations over the coming months. This move marks a significant step forward in the Kingdom’s ambitious aviation strategy, aiming to position Riyadh Air as a global player in the industry. Announced in March 2023 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Riyadh Air is expected to contribute $20 billion to Saudi Arabia’s non-oil GDP and create over 200,000 jobs. With a fleet that includes Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners leased from Saudia, the airline is officially scheduled to launch in 2025. By 2030, it plans to connect over 100 destinations worldwide.
