How resilient and adaptive are Welsh communities to economic, governmental, and environmental changes? How do communities foster local place identities, creativity, and culture? Have you ever wondered what services and resources are available for Welsh communities, how these differ geographically, or how they have changed over time? Cymru Wledig (LPIP) Rural Wales Community Survey seeks to answer these questions in a survey recently sent to the Clerks of councils all over Wales. Please check with your council to see if they have completed this - the information we collect will help fill gaps in existing data about community services, resources, social spaces, groups, events, and more. This will inform policy, identify challenges and successful initiatives, guide stakeholders, and help to shape innovation opportunities to enhance community capacities, wellbeing, culture, and economies.

Restoring trust in public institutions is crucial for society. It relies on three principles: - Accountability involves setting clear rules for public officials and making sure they follow them, with clear consequences if they don't. - Transparency means not just sharing information, but making sure it is clear and useful. - Engagement involves including the community in policy-making, giving citizens a real voice. Implementing these principles can enhance community resilience and revitalize public service. Read more about community resilience here: https://lnkd.in/e3B2gQud

Steve Tshwete Municipality set a goal to reduce the number of reported GBVF cases. To achieve this, they embarked on a number of community awareness and capacity building campaigns. Halfway through their challenge, the team observed an increase in reported cases. So they regrouped.. What they discovered was that many community members lacked knowledge about how to report cases or access available support. Even those who knew how to report often distrusted the system’s ability to handle their cases effectively. With the election now called, we know that local communities are best placed to transform lives and create a fairer society. We're urging all parties to make five big reforms: 1️⃣ Introduce a Community Power Act to help local people shape public services, control local investment, and take control of local buildings and spaces. 2️⃣ Create a National Community Ownership Strategy that boosts community ownership and capacity from energy to housing to health. 3️⃣ Put communities in charge of local economic development, giving residents more control over local regeneration spending and devolving employment and skills support to the hyper-local level. 4️⃣ Make collaboration – not competition - the guiding principle of public services. Reform commissioning and shift NHS budgets to community led prevention. 5️⃣ Champion community led housing and neighbourhood planning - giving communities a tangible stake in their neighbourhoods. We believe the blueprint for a better future already exists – and it's right here in communities up and down the country.
