Young Latinos can impact the vote in Arizona, as half of the state’s A18-34 Latino registered voters are non-Partisan (Independent/Other). They are also 43% more likely than the general Arizona electorate to be non-Partisan (Independent/Other). This history could not be more relevant today as we face a crucial national election 60 years later. Read this NAACP LDF post to learn more about Freedom Summer and its story of multiracial activism for voting rights. https://lnkd.in/gC5zyvFs
Freedom Summer was meant to draw national attention to the persistent voter intimidation and dilution happening in Mississippi and to directly counter the false narrative that Black people in the South were not registered to vote. https://lnkd.in/eCZ4NSq3

Donald Trump’s victory proved once and for all that Latinos don’t vote along party lines and is 100% in play. Democrats squandered their advantage with a weak message to working class Latinos and by failing to include any Latinos in their party leadership. Will Republicans seize the momentum they earned by going all in with Latinos or is it just all talk? Will Latino Republican politicians demand their rightful place in party leadership? Will Democrats do a full reboot of their weakened party and bet big on Latinos? Will Latino Democratic politicians demand their place in party leadership? Will the Latino community be the beneficiary of a electorate that is in play? We shall see.
