#ProtectHomebuyers: Regrettably, the #MassREBoard is a text book example of #RegulatoryCapture, so wonder if @MassAGO is ramping up it's consumer division in anticipation of more real estate complaints after 8/17/24 - the date real estate commissions are uncoupled across the US? Don't forget, Mass. Attorney General Andrea Campbell promised to "look into affordable housing crisis" in late June 2024. I'm happy to share that I've obtained a new certification as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman (as it is written in Texas Statute) through the Texas Health and Human Services in partnership with Alamo Area Council of Governments. This was an intensive course that educated me on many topics affecting elderly, including: Dementia, Elderly abuse and rights, Durable and Non-Durable Power of Attorney (POA), Medical POA, Residents' rights, Organizing and advocacy vehicles like resident and family councils, Resident care plans, Investigations on behalf of residents (including HIPAA info), Systems advocacy for enduring results. I'm also happy to be volunteering at a local long-term care facility a few miles from where I live, where I look forward to (in addition to my duties as Ombuds) having fascinating conversations with residents about their lives, experiences, perspectives, wisdom, and anything else they choose to share with me while I build rapport and trust. While there is much well-deserved discussion in the Ombuds profession on whether the long-term care ombuds is truly an ombuds (given that it's inherently advocacy-based, partial for residents), I stand on principal to operate as much as possible in the collaborative space. In many situations, the difference between getting something done for residents can be approaching staff with a collaborative rather than adversarial mindset -- by not assuming that staff is to blame, I'll refrain from positioning myself as an adversary, changing a would-be opponent to a partner in problem solving. At the end of the day, when resident and staff interests don't align, I must of course remain faithful to my duty as an advocate, but I'll work to ensure that I live and operate as much as possible in the collaborative space! Who knows, I may even be able to do so my entire time as a volunteer! #Ombuds #Ombudsman #LongTermCare #DisputeResolution #ElderLaw #FamilyLaw #Healthcare

Interesting developments planned for reforming employment and careers support via the role of Jobcentre Plus. When it comes to economic inactivity, accessing help regarding health should play an equally important role and the most effective aspect of overall support is the provision of person-centred advocacy.

“Weeks before the medevac, with no warning or preparation, my supervisor emailed me a career-ending statement for my employee evaluation report (EER) that bore no resemblance to my understanding of my performance and included fabricated material. “Bewildered, I reached out to trusted colleagues for advice and tried to negotiate with my supervisor, but to no avail.” FSO Rachel Schneller shares her story and encourages increased accountability at the State Department for similar EER mishandling cases in the November #SpeakingOut article, “My $100,000 EER.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gwMXdxFM #foreignservice #advocacy #mentalhealth
