📣 Our Full-Year 2024 Financial Advisory Rankings are now live 👉 https://lnkd.in/erEcukv6 2024 saw M&A volume increase across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, driven by lower interest rates, non-core corporate divestitures, and an increase in financial sponsor-led activity. Goldman Sachs displayed its dominance by maintaining its pole position in the US and gaining one spot each in Europe and Asia-Pacific. It was the only firm to record more than USD 1trn in deal volume across 430 deals, up 13% YoY. Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan, as they have historically done, battled it out for the second spot, with the former slipping ahead by a slim margin. Morgan Stanley saw a 13% YoY increase in volume to USD 856bn while JPMorgan’s numbers were flat at about USD 805bn, compared to the year prior. Rounding out the top 10 were Citi, Bank of America, UBS, Barclays, Evercore, Lazard, and Jefferies.

Jefferies Financial's profit more than tripled in the fourth quarter, driven by higher fees from deal advisory and robust underwriting activity, the investment bank reported on Wednesday. Ebullient markets, falling interest rates, and the prospect of lighter regulation under the incoming Trump administration have bolstered corporate sentiment towards mergers and acquisitions. Equity and debt offerings also surged in the second half of 2024. Global investment banking revenue rose 26% to $86.8 billion in 2024, with North America leading the way with a 33% increase, according to Dealogic data. Jefferies ranked seventh in fee earnings among banks during this period. "What will drive corporate activity, private equity activity, and overall investment banking and capital markets activity will be M&A and IPOs," Brian Friedman, president of Jefferies, told Reuters.
