4 months of unemployment a and now I'm reflecting on how I've utilized my days. I realized I could have been more intentional with my time. I keep thinking about all the skills I could have learned or certifications I could have obtained, like the PMP cert that is and has been calling my name for years! What recommendations and resources do you have for staying productive and enhancing skills during periods of free time? #ProfessionalDevelopment #ProductivityTips #Certifications #freeresources #timemanagement #productive #letschat #veterans #gibill #vre #grants #PMP #education #lifelonglearner

In just 4 months, over 110 people have now used my free ‘Phase 1 Preparation Program’. Thats: 110+ people less likely to get injured in training. 110+ people more likely to reach the physical standards the army requires. 110+ people choosing to prepare for a rewarding career like a professional. And ultimately, that’s…. 110+ people more likely to pass out of training first time. I’m so proud of this free program, and the benefit and impact it provides. The dream of helping 1000 people prepare for the army doesn’t seem so out of reach right now…… If you, or someone you know, is preparing for Phase 1 training, here’s the link - https://lnkd.in/emeqPaDf

Part 3. Equipping our hospital with the best simulation technology available would make a difference. For instance, technology that allows Corpsmen to pack a bleeding wound, apply a tourniquet that stops bleeding, or treat and identify life-threatening conditions. Building a full array of part-task trainers where they can practice, feel the pulsing of an artery with their fingers, and see bleeding stop with their own hand while applying pressure would build both skill and confidence. Simulation tools that mimic breathing or tension pneumothorax responses could add invaluable realism to training. Beyond teaching the mechanics, we could reinforce the importance of leadership and resource management in critical situations. Moving from basic skill training to these complex scenarios will give our Corpsmen an advantage in the field. Showing them how to keep composure and make decisions under pressure aligns with preparing them not just as medical assets but as leaders who will be relied upon in battle. Culpability should motivate rather than deter us as leaders. Every Sailor deserves the confidence that they can protect the lives of Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen around them, knowing they’ve learned from the best. With this commitment, our command could become the most prepared and well-trained in Navy Medicine. Reaching this level of excellence could mean more service members returning home safely, and it ensures we’re ready should conflict reach our doorstep.

Sharing this to add another voice to this critically important note... Training and education programs for Veterans are wonderful, but without a sustainable job market, organizations ready to hire into quality roles (that reflect Veteran's experiences and varied education levels), or create pathways for a Veteran's career growth, and/or collaborative partnerships that look beyond just the training and education portion...we have only one piece of the puzzle, and in some cases only optics and little tangible action-oriented or goal-oriented purpose. I am a devotee of lifelong education, and thus training and education for Veterans, but more so as a pathway to fulfilling and meaningful careers and professional life. In there we'll find some the true markers for some serious long-term successes.
I keep hearing from #Veterans that are beyond frustrated so I'll keep screaming this. What I think we need more of: Training programs that are aligned to ACTUAL EMPLOYMENT *BEFORE* they enroll veterans. This means that EMPLOYERS that offer EMPLOYMENT are critical stakeholders in training curriculum development. 📣EMPLOYERS CANNOT BE AN AFTERTHOUGHT.📣 #VeteranEmployment 💙

Y'all say this louder for those in the back. I've been applying to jobs and internships since late April and if it isn't an immediate rejection, you just don't hear back and that's the worst part of it all. Let's start being honest in our Transition Readiness Seminars about just how difficult it is to land a meaningful job in this market. #recruiters #networking #veteran #military #opentowork #lookingforwork #defensejobs #techjobs
