MYTH: An electrostatic MERV 13 filter maintains a high level of protection throughout its lifespan. FACT: The electrostatic charge of a MERV 13 filter can diminish within a week of operation, reducing its efficiency to that of a MERV 10 or lower. Steel Jupiter filters eliminate the guesswork by providing consistent, high-level airborne pathogen protection throughout their lifespan. They outperform electrostatic MERV 13 filters and reduce the spread of airborne pathogens by up to 10 times more than a standard air filter. #cleanair

Marine radar is a critical navigational tool used to detect objects, measure range and bearing, and prevent collisions. It works by transmitting electromagnetic waves, which reflect off objects and return to the radar. The system calculates the distance and direction of objects, displaying them on a screen for the operator. Radar operates on two frequency bands: X-band for clear weather and S-band for poor visibility. Radars are integrated with other systems, such as ARPA, to assist in vessel tracking and positioning.

When The Lights Go Out! Check out the comparison between the helmet cam and the view through the FLIR K65. When the lights go out, notice the thermal view and what is visible? The thermal layer is just above the firefighter radiating heat down upon the area below it. Each time temperature doubles, radiation increases exponentially to the fourth power! Stay Intelligently Aggressive! #firefighter #thermalimaging #thermography

Correlation Coefficient (aka “CC”) gets a lot of loud press for its ability to detect tornadic debris in the atmosphere, but did you know that CC has many other utilities to a radar meteorologist. For example, CC can be used to verify a radar signatures as not precipitation, but rather smoke, as seen in this loop from the #NWS KTBW radar of a fire this afternoon in western Polk County, FL. Another common use of CC is to identify military chaff. Chaff has been known to rather impressively mimic the look of banded precipitation, and may have unnecessarily ruined a picnic or two over the years for the casual radar app viewer. However, even chaff can’t hide from our friend CC (pun intended). Dual-polarization radar is truly a powerful tool to the #radar meteorologist that knows how to utilize it.

We consider weather radar as part of the critical observing backbone that enables forecasters' ability to issue life-saving weather warnings. Scientists and technicians at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Noaa National Severe Storms Laboratory work every day to develop and test radar systems to improve forecasters' ability to save lives. While the forecasters are those that citizens hear from directly in times of severe weather, dedication over decades by scientists and technicians, nearly always out of the public's view, is what I consider to be an indispensible component of our weather forcasting backbone. Service through Science! #noaa #research
We recently released a full video feature of the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) Phased Array Radar (PAR) program history and current status. We highlight the Radar Next program and peek into the future of what PAR provides scientifically when monitoring severe weather. Check out the video if you want to learn more! https://lnkd.in/giwmmE4W
