I had the incredible opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of the FIRST Global (IFCA) Challenge in Athens during my last week of vacation. Witnessing firsthand the passion, creativity, and innovation of young minds from across the globe was truly inspiring. One particularly powerful moment was when the opening parade was led by a young girl from Afghanistan. Given the political context of the region, this moment was a strong symbol of resilience, hope, and the limitless potential of youth, regardless of the challenges they may face. It reminded us all of the importance of inclusion and education, especially in regions where opportunities for young women in STEM can be insufficient. (STEM = science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) As someone from Portugal who works closely with Guyana, I was particularly thrilled to see teams from both countries participating in the event. It was a proud moment to witness the collaboration and spirit of innovation coming from our regions. Their presence not only highlights the diversity of talent but also the potential for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration in the STEM fields. I also want to compliment the Black Eyed Peas and especially will.i.am for their active involvement in this initiative. Their support in showing young people that STEM is cool and encouraging them to pursue education in these fields was truly impactful. It’s amazing to see influential figures use their platforms to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. The FIRST Global initiative is a fantastic example of how we can empower the next generation to pursue careers in technology and engineering. It's not just about robotics; it’s about fostering teamwork, problem-solving, and a love for STEM. These are the skills that will shape the future of our world. The young participants of this event are future engineers, innovators, and problem solvers. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐀𝐁𝐁 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 ABB Robotics (AMR) and ABB Motion participated in the 'SocialTech Challenge' at the University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain). This is a competition between different teams of university engineering students to create a prototype of an autonomous guided wheelchair to help disabled people or people with mobility problems to visit museums and exhibitions. The technological principles are very similar to our own in Autonomous Mobile Robotics (AMRs). 🌟Exciting News from JECRC University🌟 A 3 day extravaganza Protsahan'24 just wrapped up, and it was a monumental success, thanks to the innovative efforts of our Makerspace team. This year, we took a deep dive into the world of emerging technologies and engineering through a series of captivating workshops and competitions. We kicked things off with an AI & ML Workshop, where participants unraveled the complexities of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Following closely was our AR/VR Workshop that transported students into exciting new worlds, merging cutting-edge technology with real-world applications. The excitement continued with Robo Soccer, where teams engineered robots to compete in a test of strategy and design in a thrilling soccer match. The challenge escalated at Robo Sumo, where robust robots clashed in a sumo wrestling ring, pushing the limits of design and control. Each of these events was designed not only to educate but also to inspire our students, providing a hands-on experience that bridges theory with practical application. A huge thank you goes out to everyone involved—from participants to organizers—for making this Protsahan event a beacon of innovation and creativity. We’re just getting started! SFU had the privilege of hosting Mary Ng, Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, along with trade delegates from 11 Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) partner countries. SFU President Joy Johnson and representatives from Global Affairs Canada also attended. The event aligns with SFU’s mission to engage in global challenges, drive global innovation and strengthen international partnerships. It also highlights SFU VentureLabs' role in fostering cross-border business and advancing Canada’s economic presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

IEEE IES Successfully Hosted DUETECH’24 on December 19, 2024! As the Webmaster of IEEE IES, I had the honor of designing the promotional posters for DUETECH’24. From showcasing cutting-edge technology to celebrating innovation, these designs helped bring the event to life and spread excitement among participants.
