B2B sales = where the progression and reward is as a salesperson If you’re serious about your sales career then you’ll need this experience. Particularly if you want to break into tech sales. If you have any cold outreach, prospecting or outbound calling on your CV from a B2B environment then use it. That’s transferable. And if you don’t, then it might be worth considering other B2B sales roles as a stepping stone. Sometimes it’s better to earn and learn. Rather than wait for the perfect opportunity. #salesjobs #jobhunting #salescareer

"Tech sales encompasses a vast array of roles, some of which you might not immediately associate with traditional sales," explains Simon Warren from Dragos, Inc. "Farming roles, like account management, focus on retaining and growing existing accounts. It's more about nurturing relationships rather than cold calling or aggressive outreach," says Simon. He contrasts this with roles such as Business Development Representative (BDR) and Sales Development Representative (SDR). "These positions involve being on the phone frequently, sending cold emails, and using platforms like LinkedIn to initiate conversations with potential clients." Ever get annoyed someone reaches out about a job you’re “overqualified for”? It’s natural for our egos to be a bit taken aback…even if you have less of an ego than most. Here’s how I handle it, for whatever it’s worth. “Thanks a ton for thinking of me and trying to help out. At this point of my sales career, I’m focused on staying as (X) a mid-market AE/sales manager. Wish you the best in finding the right BDR. And happy to flag Y (company) to any potential top BDRs that I know.” And do the same if you’re under qualified. “Thanks a ton for the flattering note and context about Y (company name). With my background, I haven’t consistently sold into Z (Industry). My proven background is selling deals within sales tech, mar tech and HR. Is that a must have for your team or would you consider someone else if they check other boxes? No worries either way!” The candidate process becomes easier when you believe people intend to do well. Proving yourself as a candidate becomes easier when you operate from a place of transparency. #BensBest #Sales

Many people desperately trying to break into tech sales are running AWAY from bad situations like empty bank accounts & unfulfilling jobs. Although moving away from pain can be a powerful motivator, in my latest Youtube video (linked in the comments), I deep dive into the importance of also defining a compelling personal vision to run TOWARDS. Timestamps 1:50 - A simple definition of what a vision is and why it matters 1) A vision is a vivid picture of the future, it defines what great looks like, & evokes a strong emotional response that draws you forward 2) It transforms the daily difficult, unsexy actions required to be successful (like networking, cold calling, & preparing for interviews) from burdensome chores into opportunities that you WANT to step into to reach your goals 3) When you share a compelling, specific, longterm vision & make it clear how the job you're interviewing for fits into that vision you signal to hiring managers that you're a high quality candidate 4:13 - 4 practical tips to create a compelling vision & maximize its impact 1) Think so big you start to doubt yourself 2) Make it personally, emotionally compelling 3) Share it with others (selectively) 4) Write it down & review it everyday 10:22 - Create your own vision & goals for different categories of your life 1) Create an aspirational longterm vision across key categories of your life & reverse engineer to your 10 year vision, 3 - 5 year vision, and annual & quarterly goals 2) Key categories to reflect on include -Career -Finances -Relationships -Spirituality -Health & Wellness -Hobbies 3) Visualize your vision vividly across all 5 senses The subconscious brain loves sensory data so feed it what it craves by allowing yourself to consistently experience exactly how realizing your vision looks, smells, tastes, feels, & sounds. As you do that the subconscious mind will align with the conscious mind and get to work in the background on turning your dreams into reality. My question to you is what does your personal vision look like & how are you using a career in tech sales to realize it? Whatever that vision may be, you're worthy of it, capable of it, and it's available to you in an abundant & giving world. My personal vision is to be a real world sales & personal growth experiment who uses this path to create a life of freedom & impact & helps 100,000 people in the coming years launch their own tech sales careers to do the same. Shoutout to the subscribers who've broke in so far, the ones who have gotten promoted to AE, and to all those who are still in the early stages of the tech sales job hunt hustling and dreaming big. May we always aim upward, enjoy the journey, & never lose hope for the good things that are around the corner! Happy Selling & Happy Living, Chris #techsales #careerpath #careeradvice #breakintotech #careerchange #interviewpreparation

Did you know that Tech Sales is one of the fastest paths to a 6-figure income? For most careers, landing a high-paying role often means spending years on degrees (at least 4 years of university) and qualifications, then trying to climb the corporate ladder and getting multiple promotions. No one is going to hire you as an accountant, engineer, or lawyer if you don’t have the right qualifications, even if you actually have the knowledge and ability to do the job. But in Tech Sales, you can bypass that lengthy process and show you’ve got what it takes through you job hunt approach. Wild, isn’t it? Here's the thing: the process of landing a Sales Development Representative (SDR) role is strikingly similar to the role itself. As an SDR, your job is to generate opportunities by identifying decision-makers, grabbing their attention, and convincing them to invest time in learning more about how they can benefit from what you have to offer. You can literally take the same approach to job hunting. If you're curious to learn more about how to do that, DM me the word HUNT.

A few ways I was able to break into Tech SaaS Sales with a pure Hospitality Background 👇🏽 1️⃣ I studied the key skills Tech companies were looking for! My lack of experience in Tech meant I had to enable myself to stand out from a transferrable skills perspective. I studied and cross-referenced 10 job listings and built my CV around the top skills to show I can easily transition. 2️⃣ I made applying for Tech sales jobs my full-time job Luckily, I was out of a job due to the pandemic, which meant I would wake up daily, sit at my desk and my main job was applying. I followed a simple process for companies I wanted to work for: Study the company and product -> Private message to hiring managers about my application with a pitch (why me) -> Message a handful of reps working at the company to get Facetime -> Get my name popping up to the recruiters 3️⃣ Faith and Patience You can't control everything. Some things work, and some don't, and some companies will see the value you bring. As long as you do what you must, the rest is not in your control. So drink some tea 🍵 and eventually, your hard work will unfold. For me, it was Pleo that gave me my break! what a company to work for when trying to break into tech sales!

Entry level jobs are no longer entry level.. My lovely Fiancée is looking for an entry level sales role & it is completely mind boggling what these companies are asking for. “Consistently exceeding sales KPIs” can’t always be achieved by seasoned sales veterans. Requirements like these are making it impossible for bright, creative young people to land their first sales role. No wonder the SDR role is going downhill. You’re hiring SDRs with previous experience (that want an AE role) with potentially low motivation. Rather than someone dying to get into the industry and is prepared to do anything to make an impact?! Seems silly to me. Rant over.. If anyone has any real entry level roles (industry agnostic) drop me a message.
