question I get asked a lot by clients is how to get as photorealistic as possible with 3D rendering. A lot of it really comes down to lighting things naturally, as if they would be in real life, but also have just enough surface imperfections that would trick the eye into thinking it's not too prefect. The balance and finessing of these two things is what really comes together in showing a photorealistic result.

It was the Friday before #NAB2024 and all through the house, not a creature was stirring... except the #AfterEffects team, who have not one, but two new 3D announcements in beta today! 😉 First up for you is depth mapping and 3D Channel effects! Utilize depth maps to simulate real-world camera settings for 3D renders, or to apply effects to a portion of a 3D scene based on its depth. You'll love the more realistic composites you'll be able to create. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gAvwfjWR We also have two new features in the Advanced 3D renderer: shadow catchers and shadow colors. Make your 3D model look like it's part of a 2D video or image by utilizing the new shadow catcher 3D layer type (which will "catch" the shadows cast by your 3D model but would be otherwise transparent). You can also customize a shadow's color and tint. More in the Adobe Beta Forum: https://lnkd.in/gmWAp9Nm All of these features are available today in AE beta 24.5 build 4. For those of you attending NAB this coming week, you can also swing by the Adobe booth to see these new features in action!

🎚️🎛️ How to Estimate Shots for 3D Tracking? Part 1 This material will be useful both for clients who want to understand in advance what contributes to the cost of work and for industry professionals seeking to optimize their workflow. We have outlined the key parameters from our internal calculator that affect the complexity and timing of tasks, so you can effectively plan your budget and schedule. 🔹 Shot length The longer the shot, the more time is required for tracking and solving. The dependency is exponential (10 seconds will not be twice as "complex" as 5 seconds). 🔹 FPS The higher the frame rate, the longer the 2D tracking process takes. 🔹 Resolution The higher the resolution of the source material, the more time is needed for rendering previews and other manipulations with the shot. 🔹 Geometry Tracking - simple tracking does not require creating complex masks and additional 2D tracks. Typically, it is enough to import a model and make no more than 1-2 adjustments during tracking. - medium tracking applies when the standard approach is insufficient (multiple trackers + several position refinements do not yield the desired result). - complex tracking is required when the model is constantly occluded, rotates significantly and rapidly, has a lot of motion blur, or its texture contains few anchor points (contrasting areas) - this is almost manual animation. 🔹 Transform to Poses In some shots, it is impossible to solve the camera for the entire range of frames. In such cases, a technique called camera stitching is used. Separate phases are tracked, and then the resulting cameras are connected using a script called "Transform to Poses." 🔹 Geometry Modeling Is it necessary to create proxy geometry after tracking? - simple - 1 plane + 1 cube (e.g., floor + building). - complex - more than 2 objects (a floor is also an object) or complex modeling of a single object. - extensive - more than 10 objects for modeling (e.g., computer monitors) or more than one complex object. 🔹 Reference Photos Reference photos often help solve complex shots. The availability of such photos reduces the final cost. ➡️ In the next part, we will discuss the "Camera and Optics" section. #Matchmove #3DTracking #CameraTracking #VFX #CGI #VisualEffects #FilmProduction #MatchmoveArtist #MotionTracking #VFXCommunity
