🎉 Gleicher is proudly celebrating 75 years of converting leadership in 2024. Half a century ago, in 1972, we moved to our current location in Scotch Plains, NJ. These new facilities enabled us to expand our capabilities to include label printing and converting with the acquisition of our first of several rotary presses. Flexographic presses, often called flexo, used flexible rubber or photopolymer plates mounted on cylinders, which transferred ink onto the label substrate. Flexo was particularly popular because of its ability to print on a variety of substrates, including plastics (like polyethylene or polypropylene), and foils. Once the printing was completed, the converting proceeded as the labels were wound onto rolls for cutting, slitting, and any other finishing operations according to customer requirements After several years of two-color printing, the company decided to go in a different direction and Chick Gleicher used his engineering background to modify the machines to die cut material to customer specifications.
