🚛 M&S Accelerates Sustainable Transport with New Eco-Friendly Fleet 🌍 Retailer Marks & Spencer is taking a bold step towards a greener future by adding five Renault eHGVs to its clothing and home fleet. In addition, they’re introducing 80 Iveco CNG trucks to further reduce their carbon footprint. Once deployed, nearly 10% of their fleet will be zero or low-emission vehicles, aligning with their Plan A Net Zero goals. Previously, we spoke about Compliance; today, let’s dive into Competitors. Recently, Michelle Lin and I reflected on a memorable meeting we had with a tyre manufacturer. The owner told us a story that, 10 years ago, they were bidding for a contract with a German luxury car brand’s motorcycle division. Competing on price to win? Nope! Their bold move was about creating energy-efficient tyres through innovative tread patterns and unique rubber compositions to fit the motorcycles. The result? 1,000 KM testing proved the motorcycle engines emits less carbon dioxide when fitting with their tyres, compared to fitting with their competitors’. That measurement is called “indirect emission reduction” and that kind of reduction gave them the competitive edge to win the contract! “Aligning sustainability with product performance” was the valuable lesson when I closed out my zoom meeting that afternoon. Carbon footprint can be more than just a compliance measure; it’s a driver for business growth.
