Fellow developers, if you are curious about how deeper can game design infuse communal aspects into the mechanism of play, do check out this research material. You are most welcomed to reach out to the team on their spaces and engage with them directly with an exchange of insights. This effort also happens to be of particular note to me for a specific reason, so I will like to contextualize my post. For those new to this info, May Ling Tan is one of the rare Malaysian game designers who found her footing in the global ecosystem. I apologize for my possible bias, since we are peers in the same discipline, but I have the surface impression there are a lot more artists and tech ranging out into the world than designers, so until I am corrected, I will like to acknowledge this capacity. This is by no means an absence of recognition in the gumption and craft of our fellow Malaysian art and tech and support professionals paving their path on the international stage, nor dismissing the exciting new reality of designers being able to work remotely with parent studios or clients while in the comfort and perks of home sweet Malaysian home; there is just a certain blend of apprehension and significant adjustment one makes when living one's life far beyond local borders. In essence, I just want to say: 'Nicely done, designer 😌.' In any case, please have a read of her team's initiative to synchronize human community with gameplay structure and mechanics. I am rather certain her long-running practice as a game designer intimately informs the finer elements of the body of knowledge lying inside this humble paper. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PS: Any Malaysian game designers out there who see this and will like to ping a greeting in the comments, please do. Curious to see how many of our subspecies are finding fun on other shores, and it may be enpowering for our newer generations of game designers contemplating stepping far from home and bringing the Malaysian spirit into other titles. Plus it is just nice to have solidarity through common ground. Have a great weekend, everyone, and Joyous Lunar Festival all round. #gamedesigner #gamedesign #humandesign #playerfocus #communityplay #designperspective #designinsights #gameplayinsights #malaysiangamedesigner
Last September I spent an entire weekend with one of the most brilliant think-tank style groups I've had the privilege of being a part of working on a subject close to me. The results of that weekend are published now. Thank you May Ling Tan Chelsea Howe Andreia Gonçalves Rosa Carbó-Mascarell for all of the wonderful discussions https://lnkd.in/g8sQ4aAx #gamedev #prosocialdesign #womeningames #polarisgamedesignretreat

Your engagement, questions, and ideas made it a truly insightful conversation! Missed the discussion or want to revisit it? Catch the recording here: bit.ly/49Hhn16 [Skip to 8:45] We still need your thoughts on this critical question: What steps can individual activists take to make their work more representative of the broader population? How can we ensure that local voices, especially from rural areas, are included in online activism? Share your answers using the hashtag #SautiStream, and let’s keep amplifying every voice! #HumanRightsUG

Today, as I stood in front of influential city and community partners, ready to present a game-changing collaboration that could propel our Juneteenth GVL Inc. mission forward, I remembered some powerful lessons: ✔️ From Dejr Bostick: Take three deep breaths—breathe deep, live deep. It’s a simple practice that grounds me every time. ✔️ From Pastor Wendell Jones: Put your ministering angels to work. This reminder fueled my faith and prepared my spirit. Wearing my Juneteenth GVL polo is more than a statement; it’s a mindset. It signifies that I’m centered, focused, and operating with unwavering Godfidence. Key takeaway: Preparation is as much internal as it is external. Center yourself, activate your confidence, and step into each opportunity fully present and aligned. Let’s make impactful moves. #JGVL #CommonUnity2025 #PurposeDriven
