Stellenbosch University - Civil Engineering’s Post

Read all about how Raphael Thompson experienced the week-long Trilateral Staff Development and Exchange Program in Hamburg, Germany. Participants explored how sustainability can be incorporated across all facets of higher education. It will be exciting to see how Mr Thompson integrates these ideas into our laboratory and workshop spaces at the Civil Engineering Department!

I would like to to extend my gratitude and thanks to the Universität of Hamburg for hosting the Trilateral Staff Development and Exchange Program (TriStax) in collaboration with Stellenbosch University and Northwestern University (USA). It was an enriching experience to engage with colleagues from these leading institutions and explore how sustainability can be integrated holistically across all aspects of higher education from teaching and curriculum development to research and campus life. The interactive sessions, thought provoking discussions and collaborative group projects offered a fresh international perspective on how we can implement sustainability both on campus and within our communities at large. I am excited to bring these ideas back to my own work environment and contribute to meaningful change. Special thanks to the organisers, facilitators and my fellow participants for fostering such a welcoming and stimulating environment. I look forward to staying connected and applying the knowledge we’ve gained to drive sustainability forward at our respective institutions.
