Emerging Technology in Education: VR Meets Pain Science One of the most exciting applications of emerging technology is education, especially in healthcare. This recent study by Julie Fritz and her team explores the use of VR technology to deliver pain science education—a promising approach in the MSK space. VR offers a unique educational experience by leveraging elements like exposure, immersion, sensory substitution, and direct access to the visual system. It’s terrific to see ongoing research that expands the number of clinically viable tools in MSK care. Innovations like these have the potential to transform our understanding and management of pain, paving the way for more impactful, patient-centered solutions.

I'm expecting mixed reality to make a big impact in education but right now are we doing enough with VR? Whilst the first VR headset might have appeared in 1968, it was 10 years ago that saw Oculus, Gear VR and Google Cardboard first really grab our attention. VR undoubtedly adds a significant element to many learning experiences. Using VR to replicate road traffic accidents - stimulating the senses, and quickening the heartbeat, of trainee medics - is just one example of the valuable, practical application. There are many others. But it still feels like we're just scraping the surface of what's possible. Maybe the University of Nottingham will let me come and experience their brand new VR lab. I particularly like the idea of the 'real time collaboration across international campuses, as Nottingham's China-based Ningbo campus has its own VR lab, so that students from across the world can work together in labs or in design-based exercises.' https://lnkd.in/eZib744z #highereducation #VR Helen Pennack Nicola Anderton

Has the old way of learning gone out the window? 🤔 At Nottingham University, they have purchased 40 VR headsets to allow engineering students to learn in a new way. As that wasn't enough, they've additionally purchased 90 headsets to allow the students to bring this new way of learning home. Would you prefer to learn the old-fashioned way or are you open to new ways of learning? Ever wondered what the future of education looks like? Hint: It's already here! 👀 University of Nottingham is breaking new ground in higher ed, with their latest venture into VR for engineering and design. With 40 VR headsets for classroom use and another 90 you can borrow, students can now explore intricate concepts anytime, anywhere. It's personalized learning at its best, and frankly, it's pretty impressive. With experiences that students describe as 'just like real life,' it's clear that these advancements are removing traditional barriers to learning. Kudos to Simon Harrison and team. This move is significant—it’s making education more adaptive and accessible than ever before. And guess what? It’s just getting started! https://lnkd.in/dCw94vFW #virtualreality #education #innovation #engineering

1: How #Immersive Technologies are powering #Industry4dot0 ? 2: What will be the role of #SpatialComputing in #Industry4dot0 ? 3: How OT/IT Integration with #XR look like? We dwelled on these questions during the recently concluded monthly XR webinar sessions organized by CIFAL York United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Me and Maaz Mohamed spent a good part of our this Friday afternoon discussing and exploring all of these questions along with Ahmad Mohammadi and Francesco del Carpio (M.DEM) Three major areas of #IndustrialMetaverse we discussed are listed with examples: 1: INDUSTRIAL SAFETY RISK: e.g.: DHL deployed VR, results showed a 100% reduction in lost time due to injury, a 32% reduction in reported near misses and higher incident reporting rates Source: National Safety Council 2: INDUSTRIAL EMPLOYEE TRAINING & ONBOARDING: e.g.: Aviation giant Lockheed Martin introduced VR to optimize employee training and training time was reduced by 85%. Source: University of Waterloo 3: INDUSTRIAL DIAGNOSTICS & MAINTENANCE: e.g.: FORD & BOSH VR training tool launched in 2020, allows technicians to understand the components and steps required to service these high-voltage systems, then confidently perform diagnostics and maintenance on all-electric Mustang Mach-E Source: Ford Please find the recording of the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/guRHT8qw If you want to learn more from #Metaverse #Thoughtleaders experiences make sure you register here - https://lnkd.in/gR7e_uQb #SpatialComputing #XR #Industry4dot0 #EnterpriseXR #IndustrialMetaverse #CIFAL #YorkUniversity
