Did we get it wrong...? This year we set up Small Business Heroes to give tiny but powerful businesses their own awards. It seemed it's a group that doesn't get many chances, usually with just one award at most events, which is aimed at micro businesses. We're excited to have our fabulous venue and sponsors onboard. The awards are free and not-too-much-work to enter. It's all looking great, except... I'll be honest with you, right now I'm concerned about having enough entrants! Thank you to those who have already entered but where are the rest of you? Maybe I'm panicking too soon, the deadline date is still 2 weeks away. We want a room full of fabulous small businesses and we know you're out there. What is it, are we smaller business too humble/shy to put ourselves up for an award? Another idea in our series on how to promote your business on a budget. 5. Apply for Awards: Look for industry-specific awards or local business recognition programs. Winning awards can boost your credibility and attract attention.

Just can’t get enough of the Awards appreciation!! Here’s a wee story about what Legacy means to us. "The thing you have to remember is, without helping them, without feeling compelled to serve, we're nothing without them. We need our customers to believe in us, because every customer we have today, they make the new customer we have tomorrow." - John Mackay This is something that Founding Director John Mackay said at the last G&M Board Meeting when I was questioned about how much I was spending (time and money), making old customers happy. John wanted to praise me for thinking about the G&M reputation, his reputation. He was proud of me, his daughter, for doing the right thing. There is a line between customer service and making a profit, most big businesses will choose profit first. My most recent interactions with BT for example, reminded me of everything I do not want my business to become. And that's something that's felt across the whole of Gillies and Mackay, my team see themselves in every customer we work for and they feel it when they take the time to get it right for them. We're different for a reason. There's a moral code within a small business like ours that tells us why we started. It's a passion and in that passion there's a special reserve to take pride in what we do and protect our service and product. Our reward? Customer validation. Something fills my soul when I know you're happy and if for whatever reason you are not, I genuinely care to make it better.

Calling all Scottish Families Businesses!! Tomorrow at 6pm is the deadline for the 2024 The Herald Scottish Family Business Awards in association with Business Gateway. ⏰Don’t think you have time to enter?? Let me tell you why 30-60 minutes out of your day tomorrow will be a great opportunity for you and your business. ❓Entry forms ask questions of what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. They prompt you to take stock of you and your teams achievements, something we rarely get the chance to do. 🤝It’s an opportunity to put forward what makes your business great and have this reviewed against other entries. Its an opportunity to find out how you fair against others in your sector. And more importantly on the night share best practice and learn about how other Family Businesses are succeeding or growing. 🗣️Lastly, you get to shout about your team. Family businesses are made up of the fabric of support, be that from generations of past or by those who choose to join your family (business) and support you and the business goals and values. It’s a fantastic opportunity to say well done and thank you!!
