September 16, 2024, marks 10 years of The Sustainable Groundwater Managment Act. Over the past ten years, the Greater Kaweah Groundwater Sustainability Agency has not only developed a comprehensive program to manage groundwater within the Kaweah Subbasin but has also submitted a Draft Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) that continues to be revised and reviewed by the State Water Resource Control Board. We continue to support landowners with tools and resources to help them farm under reduced water allocations. Our efforts include programs such as the Land Fallowing Pilot Program, mitigation for domestic wells that have gone dry due to overdraft, and collaboration with other local agencies to address the needs of Central Valley communities. https://lnkd.in/gXx9VSYx https://lnkd.in/gmEnzymy

Excellent Tony Wong. SDG6 specifically addresses water and sanitation but many of them are water related, global in nature and universally applicable. For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, regulators, private sector, civil society and people like you and me. As you rightly say, water is the common thread running through all of the SDGs.
🚰 "...sustainable water management requires a combination of technological innovation, community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration." Here's a nice summary or our panel, "Water as an Enabler of Sustainable Development" from the Lim Tiam Seng Lecture Series held at the Festival of Ideas 2024, featuring Professor Tony Wong and chaired by Professor Cecilia Tortajada. #water #SDG #Sustainability #FOI #FestivalofIdeas #adaptation #urbanresilience #mitigation Zubaidah Nazeer Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Andre Howson https://lnkd.in/gxVPymQ3

Ecological modernisation or EM is often used as a policy strategy for the achievement of sustainable development by many governments as it is viewed as a way to bridge the gap between environmental protection and economic growth. However, how this is approached is very important. Derica Lambrechts and I explore the way in which EM is adopted in the South African context, with a specific focus on waste management in the country.
Exploring the conflicting ideals of ecological modernisation and environmental justice in South Africa: Evidence from the 2020 National Waste Management Strategy

Wastewater decarbonisation is a priority for Aotearoa New Zealand as we navigate the growing pressures on our infrastructure, driven by population growth, the need to revitalise aging assets, climate change and evolving regulations in the water sector. As we look to the future, addressing these challenges with sustainable solutions becomes more important than ever. At the upcoming Water New Zealand Conference next week, Ian Ho will dive into how wastewater decarbonisation is being integrated at various stages and scales of projects. He will share real-world examples from various regions where GHD operates, highlighting key lessons learned that can help shape the future of similar initiatives. Whether you're involved in early-stage project planning or overseeing complex projects/developments, Ian’s insights will provide practical takeaways on how to advance decarbonisation efforts across the wastewater sector 💧 #WaterNZConference #Decarbonisation

GHD on the ground in Singapore, covering crucial topics such as recycled water, circular economy, digital solutions and water’s key role in the green hydrogen economy. With green hydrogen as priority industry for Australian Government's Future Made in Australia, amid Australia's global comparative advantage and a significant opportunity to achieving net zero. Water recycling is a crucial aspect of the green hydrogen supply chain due to the significant volume of water required for hydrogen production through electrolysis. Efficient water management and recycling strategies help to minimize environmental impact and ensure the sustainability of green hydrogen production. #futuremadeaustralia #greenhydrogen #waterrecycling
Last week, our team had the pleasure of participating in the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) conference 🌊🌏 On the ground, we dove into crucial topics such as recycled water, circular economy, digital solutions for the industry and water’s key role in the green hydrogen economy. Here are some of the team’s key takeaways from what was heard on the ground: 💧 We must invest and advocate for water recycling initiatives that consider and manage local environmental, social and economic factors to unlock substantial economic benefits. The 3rd APAC SWAN - The Smart Water Networks Forum's workshop, held as part of SIWW, highlighted the water sector's growing embrace of digital technologies, with a clear focus on human-centric approaches, value realisation and addressing critical challenges like decarbonisation. As the industry continues to evolve, collaboration and knowledge-sharing forums like this will be crucial in driving innovation and sustainable practices in water management. 💧 Singapore’s Climate and Sustainability Minister, Grace Fu, who is a consistent voice and incredible advocate for climate change response and resilience-building globally, emphasised the need for better Integrated Water Management, such as PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency's evolution into managing flooding and coastal resilience, to help enhance our approaches to #watermanagement globally. A huge shout-out to the #SIWW team for hosting such a fantastic and insightful conference and a big thank you to our team for representing GHD! 🙌 Rod Naylor Lindsey Brown Thomas Debruyne Matthew Brannock Jonathan Pressdee #FutureofWater #PowerofCommitment

🌍 **Promoting Sustainable Practices in Environmental Monitoring** 🌍 David Cleland, GISP, PG's recent article in the Pennsylvania Council of Professional Geologists (PCPG) Newsletter highlights a significant achievement in GES’ commitment to sustainability and regulatory compliance. By strategically reducing the number and frequency of monitoring wells sampled, GES achieved substantial cost savings for our client while maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements. Key Highlights: **Cost Efficiency**: Reduced sampling led to considerable cost savings without compromising on compliance. **Environmental Benefits**: This approach minimized waste generation and lowered carbon emissions through reduced site travel, fewer consumables, and less sample shipping and analysis. **Positive Impact**: Showcasing sustainable work practices sends a powerful message to the wider community about our dedication to environmental stewardship. Read the full article to learn more about how we are leading the way in sustainable environmental practices and making a positive impact on our planet. 🔗https://lnkd.in/et2neEQX #Sustainability #EnvironmentalMonitoring #CostSavings #RegulatoryCompliance #SustainablePractices #EnvironmentalStewardship
