What makes photography fine art? This is one of my images that did well in competition and has been called a fine art image by judges. This has made me think about what makes this fine art. For me, I think it is the use of light and shadow, the moodiness, the simplicity, and the use of a texture in editing. What are your thoughts?

It made me think back to when I saw a similar pose in real life. The one I saw as a child was a swan.

I completely agree with you - it’s the soft light and deep shadow, and of course texture

Very beautiful work! I think fine art is what people would be willing to display in their home or commercially. The mood with the light and shadow gives it a mysterious look and draws the viewer into the story.

Stephanie, you asked what makes your image fine art. Perhaps it's the emotion conveyed from the bird to the viewer?

I think it's about simplicity and lighting Stephanie Sabourin, M. Photog. I would think it's a fine art seeing the reflection
