October is not just the autumn leaves that signal a change – it’s also the start of the final quarter of the year! 🍂 For businesses, this is a time to both reflect on what’s been achieved and focus on those last key milestones before the year closes out. Q4 in the UK brings a unique mix of hustle and tradition. Many businesses are gearing up for the busy holiday period while also finalising plans for 2025. It’s a period of strategy, reviewing goals, and making sure we finish the year on a high note. Finding value in your employees’ effort: I’m not upset when someone has to cancel dinner plans last minute. It’s life, it happens. In fact it kind of works out. 1. Your house is now ridiculously clean.👏🏼 2. dinner is already made and it’s likely better than what you had last night. AND because you made MORE than usual, guess who now has leftovers?! YAY! 🥳 Managers and team members - consider putting this same kind of feeling into your employees. I’ll explain… When employees put in the effort and the outcome isn’t ideal, I don’t think this is a loss. For example: When an employee has put a ton of work into a project to gain a client. And the client decides in the final step they’re a no. Is it a loss to revenue? Yes. Is it a loss by the numbers, sure of course. But was the effort still valuable? Absolutely. This is where I think a tablespoon of empathy goes a long way. A manager or a team member can still take that opportunity and highlight the win. Maybe take that time to say “yep this wasn’t what we wanted, but what YOU accomplished got us X, and X is invaluable” Leftovers are still good. A clean house is a bonus even if you won’t be enjoying it with close friends. There’s plenty of value in both. 🙌🏼 Pointing out value in your employees is rewarding for all.
