🚀 Welcome to a new series of posts examining myths and biases about VR. Motion Sickness is probably the most popular fear associated with VR technology. 👀 Did you know? Not everyone experiences VR sickness, and for those who do, it often diminishes with continued use. Research (by Journal of the American Medical Association) shows that gradual exposure and user-customizable environments significantly reduce symptoms. 🛠️ Tips to Enjoy VR: 1. Start with short sessions and gradually increase your time in VR. 2. Customize your VR settings for comfort—adjust movement speed, field of view, and more. 3. Use visual anchors like a fixed point in your VR view to help orient yourself. 🌐 At Alterland, we understand that VR sickness can be a concern, but it's not a barrier! Our high-spec VR platforms are designed to minimize potential discomfort, every space is created with harmony and your well-being in mind. 🎮 Whether you’re meeting, learning, or collaborating, do it without the worry of VR sickness. In the worst-case scenario, when all methods fail, you can play Alterland on your computer - the collaborative experience is also fantastic 😎 What was your first VR experience? In 2022, I predicted that tools like VR would become essential for designers to visualize and deeply understand the experiences of people who navigate the world differently. Today, we’re seeing that prediction come to life with VR simulations like the one showcasing barriers in the built environment at a major traffic hub in Karlsruhe, Germany. This technology isn’t just about design; it’s about empathy and inclusion. By immersing non-disabled people in the challenges faced by disabled individuals, we can drive meaningful conversations and advocate for more accessible environments. It's exciting to see VR being used to promote reflection and joint action, expanding our understanding of equitable participation in society. The future of design is inclusive, and tools like this are leading the way. #InclusiveDesign #VR #Accessibility #Empathy #Innovation #StrategicForesight

Wait for the last richie's plank experience😂Exploring the world of VR can be exhilarating, but it's crucial to remember safety first! 🚀 As someone deeply engaged in VR development, I've seen firsthand the potential for amazing experiences, like Richie's Plank Experience. However, with great immersion comes great responsibility. It's essential to share lessons learned from VR fails to prevent accidents. From ensuring adequate space to securing cables, attention to detail is key. Incorporating safety protocols into VR experiences, like clear instructions and virtual boundaries, can enhance user enjoyment while mitigating risks. Let's champion a culture of VR safety to foster innovation responsibly. Together, we can elevate virtual reality experiences while prioritizing user well-being. Let's keep pushing boundaries, but always with safety in mind! #VR #SafetyFirst #RichiesPlankExperience #Innovation

This half-funny half-tragic video is bringing back some sweet memories about VR in 2017. This incident was exactly one of the things that we were afraid of when we started developing our first VR experience at the Estonian Museum of Natural History back in 2017. Do you even remember the year 2017? VR was taking its first steps. There were tons of headlines about VR sickness, and/or motion sickness. In this uncertain environment, we were developing a VR experience about creatures that lived in Estonia hundreds of millions of years ago. We had no experience whatsoever! But we knew that we must create something special and not sucky. Why? Being first in something is putting you under pressure. If museum visitors get a bad first VR experience then if this visitor goes to another museum where they have a very good VR experience then most probably the visitor would say "Oh, thanks, but no thanks. I don't like these VR experiences." Luckily we succeeded. We had around 10,000 paying customers in the first six months which is a lot for a small museum in a tiny country. We didn't need any buckets for VR sickness but there were a few times we needed to catch a visitor who tried to wander around in the VR world. You can find the link for the VR animation in the comments.
