One of the most common questions we're asked about ProvaCharge is if it kills better than PAA alone. We're fortunate to have a skilled Microbiology team and lab that allows us to scientifically answer questions we receive. The slides below showcase the power of ProvaCharge using a fluorescent Invitrogen™ LIVE/DEAD™ stain where live bacteria stain green and dead bacteria stain red-orange. Image 1, Control Slide: Lots of green (live bacteria). Image 2, After PAA (no ProvaCharge): A fair amount of green still remains. Image 3, After PAA + ProvaCharge: No green at all! Magnify the images to see individual cells and the high density of cells. ProvaCharge says lights out to biofilm bacteria! https://lnkd.in/eRvf8zc5 #biofilmcontrol #biofilmlisteria #ProvaCharge #foodprocessing

Using reconstituted biomolecular condensates with ubiquitinated substrates and proteasomes/deubiquitinases can have different substrate fates, potentially serving as an interpreter of the ubiquitin code. We're working to investigate how protein quality control function can be controlled by condensates. This work would not have been possible without Dan Kraut's awesome lab (and tools) at Villanova! https://lnkd.in/edjtsU-z

#Article Detection of Unamplified E. coli O157 DNA Extracted from Large Food Samples Using a Gold Nanoparticle Colorimetric Biosensor by Emma Dester, Kaily Kao and Evangelyn C. Alocilja https://lnkd.in/ertUxv3v MDPI Michigan State University #foodbornepathogens #foodborneillness #biosensing #foodsafety #oligonucleotideprobe #openaccess #Abstract Rapid detection of foodborne pathogens such as E. coli O157 is essential in reducing the prevalence of foodborne illness and subsequent complications. Due to their unique colorimetric properties, gold nanoparticles (GNPs) can be applied in biosensor development for affordability and accessibility. In this work, a GNP biosensor was designed for visual differentiation between target (E. coli O157:H7) and non-target DNA samples. Results of DNA extracted from pure cultures indicate high specificity and sensitivity to as little as 2.5 ng/µL E. coli O157 DNA. Further, the biosensor successfully identified DNA extracted from flour contaminated with E. coli O157, with no false positives for flour contaminated with non-target bacteria. After genomic extraction, this assay can be performed in as little as 30 min. In addition, food sample testing was successful at detecting approximately 103 CFU/mL of E. coli O157 magnetically extracted from flour after only a 4 h incubation step. As a proof of concept, these results demonstrate the capabilities of this GNP biosensor for low-cost and rapid foodborne pathogen detection.

WHAT IS Vitek Machine? The Vitek machine is a fully automated system used in bacteriology labs to perform bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. It uses specialized ID cards (for identifying bacteria) and AST cards (for determining antibiotic susceptibility by containing various antimicrobials). WHAT IS BACTEC Device? The BACTEC device is used in bacteriology labs, specifically for blood culture testing. It detects the presence of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, as well as yeast, by measuring the production of CO₂ released by the organisms.

How to improve invasive colony counting for microbiological analyses? 🦠 Tuesday October 22th 🧫 🧫 🧫 10:00 AM (Europe/Paris) Duration: 30 minutes Language: English Register here: https://lnkd.in/eH6ycYFz with Iseline SANSEAU Field Application Support Scientist INTERSCIENCE Counting invasive colonies such as Penicillium or Aspergillus at the end of incubation is very challenging, if not impossible. Real time monitoring during the incubation allows to improve the detection of this challenging colonies. In this Webinar, we will discuss: 🔹 Real-time counting: What are the advantages for my laboratory? 🔹 Data from trials 🔹 Questions/Answers If you can’t attend the live webinar, you can still register to receive the recording and slides! The smart incubation ScanStation, real-time incubator and colony counter detects colonies as soon as they appear, providing precise counts that would be impossible to obtain manually.

🔬 New Protocol Alert: Protocol to study human gut bacterial communities and rhythmicity ex vivo using a chemostat system By Heimer et al. from Dirk Haller’s lab from the Technical University of Munich Summary: Chemostat systems offer a unique opportunity to cultivate complex intestinal microbial communities outside the body. This protocol outlines the process of transferring bacteria from human fecal material into chemostat systems, allowing for the simulation of infant or adult colonic conditions. Protocol Highlight: Explore the experimental setup, media design, donor selection, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, and circadian analysis of bacterial abundance. By utilizing this protocol, researchers can investigate shifts in microbial community composition and metabolites in response to various dietary components. Read the full protocol here: https://lnkd.in/eBZBaadJ #GutMicrobiota #ChemostatSystem #MicrobiomeResearch #ExVivoStudy #ScienceProtocol #CellPress #STARProtocols
