Somehow looking at facts and, staying groups that hold power in industries is “anti”. Somehow having a preference is “phobic”. But, when it comes to “Black” people we still have to pull out a pie chart. Even then the response is, why do “you guys” have to bring race into. Also can you imagine building a career as a black person in this area when things like this happen so casually? #linkedin #boston #historyandpresentofracism #ceo #workforcedevelopment https://lnkd.in/e_N-KiNe

When training new hires in records management, I always emphasize how subtlety important accurate preservation of history is. In this example, if we didn't have on record how diverse the 19th-century West was we'd only have Hollywood depictions to rely on. An unreliable narrator at best!
From Made by History: Black cowboys made up as much as a quarter of working ranch hands during late 19th century. That legacy has been obscured.

King’s Award presentation marks record year for one of Birmingham’s oldest manufacturers C. Brandauer & Co Ltd Derrick Anderson CBE, the Lord Lieutenant for the West Midlands. CEO Rowan Crozier MBE told the 61-strong workforce and high-profile guests that the accolade had helped them secure more than £1.2m of new orders, including its first 4- module progression tool, a first tooling design advisory contract and a first scalable e-motor lamination stack bonding tool – the latter ideal for exploiting electrification. Together, they will help the Newtown-based business touch £9.5m in annual sales, with the increasingly realistic target of achieving £11m in 2025/26. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eNQYcEJq

Did you happen to catch Shawn Gorman '84 on the Today Show recently? Read more about Shawn's time speaking with Al Roker, and watch the interview, in Shawn's post below!
I had the honor of spending an afternoon on the woodsy trails of NYC’s Central Park with Al Roker from the TODAY Show. I always get energy from talking about L.L.Bean’s history, values and Purpose – but there was something extra special about having this conversation while enjoying the restorative power of being outside in one of the world’s largest cities. Many thanks to Al and the TODAY Show team for helping us share the story of L.L.Bean’s outdoors heritage, commitment to high quality products and world-class service. My great-grandfather L.L. would be proud. https://lnkd.in/gg_HbUe5

FUN FACTS: The strands of lights wrapped around the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree could stretch from Rockefeller Center to beyond the World Trade Center – over 50,000 lights! Extra branches are added to fill in the tree and hide all the wires and cables that are installed. After the tree is done spreading holiday cheer, it’s sent on its merry way to be used as lumber for Habitat for Humanity. The tree is well protected and even has its own sprinkler system (two men tried to light it on fire in 1995). Speaking of water, when the tree is first set up at Rockefeller Center it takes about 90 gallons of water a day. 2024 tree: Height: 74 feet Species: Norway Spruce Age: ~70 years
Nothing says “New York” like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. Earlier this week, the Brinley team scaled new heights when we climbed the scaffolding to see the Swarovski star up close. What a wonderful start to the holiday season. Thank you to our great partners at Tishman Speyer for the amazing opportunity! #brinleypartners #privatecredit
