As we approach the new year, there is a glimmer of hope for Florida’s homeowners and residents in the insurance market. Citizens Property Insurance, Florida's insurer of last resort, has announced a significant reduction in its policy count, dropping below 1 million for the first time in over two years. This marks a hopeful turning point for the state as the policy count is expected to continue shrinking in 2025, with projections nearing 900,000 by the end of this year. This reduction is a direct result of the success of the Citizens Depopulation Program, which transfers policies to private insurance companies approved by the state. As private insurers increase their involvement in Florida's market, we’re seeing more options for homeowners—offering a renewed sense of stability for the future. For Floridians, this development is encouraging. As Citizens’ role as the insurer of last resort continues to shrink, the risk of assessments on non-Citizens policyholders will also decrease, creating a more balanced and sustainable insurance landscape for all. While there’s still work to be done to strengthen Florida’s insurance market, this shift signals a brighter outlook for 2025. As we move into the new year, Sterling Meadows Insurance remains committed to helping our clients navigate these insurance challenges with the right coverage and peace of mind. Here's to a prosperous 2025 for Florida! https://hubs.li/Q0304rmj0 #FloridaInsurance #CitizensInsurance #InsuranceNews #InsuranceMarket #FloridaResidents #SterlingMeadowsInsurance

🏡 Six Insurers to Take Over 195K+ Citizens Property Insurance Policies 🏡 Florida's effort to depopulate Citizens Property Insurance Corp. continues! Six private insurers, including the newly approved Trident Reciprocal Exchange, will take over more than 195,000 Citizens policies starting in November. 🔑 Key Insurers Taking Policies: Trident Reciprocal Exchange (16,035 policies) American Integrity (75,000 policies) Homeowners Choice (25,000 policies) Manatee Insurance Exchange (39,000 policies) Slide Insurance (15,000 policies) TypTap Insurance (25,000 policies) This move comes after a previous approval in August for 400,000 policy takeouts, all part of Florida’s strategy to reduce the number of policies under Citizens — the insurer of last resort. With policy reforms and stabilizing rates, Citizens has already dropped from 1.4 million to 1.2 million policies, with projections to fall below 1 million by the end of the year. What This Means for Policyholders: If you're with Citizens, keep an eye out for takeout letters from private insurers. You can only remain with Citizens if your new premium is more than 20% higher than Citizens’ projected renewal rates. Florida Insurers Approved for Rate Decreases in 2024 Recent developments in Florida's insurance landscape signal positive news for homeowners across the state. Following filings earlier this year, the Office of Insurance Regulation has greenlit rate decreases for several prominent insurers, as reported by NBC affiliate WESH. Currently, Florida holds the unenviable distinction of having the highest property insurance rates in the nation. However, relief is on the horizon for customers of the approved insurers. Among the standout companies receiving approval are American National Property and Casualty, Florida Peninsula, and Safe Harbor Insurance, each slated for significant reductions in their rates: American National Property and Casualty will implement a 3.3% decrease. Safe Harbor Insurance is set to decrease rates by 1.5%, with an additional 11.5% pending approval. Florida Peninsula customers will benefit from a 2% rate reduction. These developments mark a pivotal moment for Florida's insurance landscape, offering hope to homeowners and businesses alike as they navigate the challenges of securing affordable property coverage in the state.
