Asphalt & Concrete Problem Solver

Why I love working on Saturdays and Sundays in the winter 👇 At this current time 95% of your competitors are on “cruise control.” 🚢 December is a month where most contractors in seasonal markets take their foot off the gas. I use to be one of them 🤦♂️ One January about 10 years ago I realized I always seemed to be behind the 8 ball for my list of goals for the following season when I just coasted through December and went back to work January 2nd. I am not saying you have to come into work at 7 am and stay till 5 pm. Today I didn’t come in until 10:30 am and I will be wrapped up by 3 pm and will be able to take my family out for dinner at 5 pm. In those 4.5 hours I will knock out a ton of marketing objectives. What I have learned over the last 10 years is by starting in December to plan for the next season- you will come out of the gate thirty days ahead of everyone else. 🗓️ When January 2nd comes and everyone comes out of a food coma and rolls back to their office that works in fields such as sales, marketing and operations- you will be 1 lap ahead. Most companies that have had a continual bad experience with a contractor begin to look for a possible replacement as soon as the new budgeting season starts after January 2nd. By identifying leads and making initial contact in December- you are already planting a seed. This isn’t a political post - so please don’t troll it. My honest feeling for contactors is that 2025 is going to be much the same as 2024. IMO the economy is in far worse condition than anyone knows. If I am wrong- I will never have been so happy in my life to be wrong. I have spoken to several friends of mine who are contractors who are closing up shop after this year. If I am wrong (I sincerely hope I am), then you will require a few new clients that will help your sales grow. You don’t want to ever have to start digging a well when you already need water. I have yet to ever meet a successful contractor who ever complains about having too many clients and then being in a position to cherry pick the contracts they actually want (not need). 📈 🏎️ Put the pedal to the floor. 🏎️

In regards to your comments about the 2025 economy, I think you are spot on. Best course of action is to plan for your gut feel and be pleasantly surprised if you’re wrong.

I answer my emails in minutes. My clients get responses from me at 4:00 a.m. and still after 47 years, they're shocked (why, I don't know...it seems normal to me). I love my work. I can't imagine retiring. I help people solve problems all over North America. Sometimes it's because other people are too lazy to pick up their phone. Sometimes it's because my competitors think it can't be done (and for them...they're right). But usually my phone rings because someone...often from the other end of the country...got a call from some other obscure end of the country and that guy said "call Jon...he'll figure it out". And if I couldn't...I probably knew someone who could. And every time I take that call, my Rolodex just got a little bit larger. I only work on days that end in "Y".

LOVE this!! Steven Brahney. Q4 is the most opportune time to connect with new people, while also taking care of your core partnerships. I would argue that over 75% our our key clients’ relationships actually started with a Q4 touch… Merry Christmas & keep up the great content!
