He thought it was just another typical Nordic Adventure project. Here are five short stories from the lives of yacht owners, captains, and owner representatives: **1. The Faded Yacht:** A cousin of the owner visited us at the Monaco Boat Show and inquired if we could help with a 32-meter MAIORA GRP yacht that was in poor condition. The yacht, polished annually in southern Italy, would quickly lose its shine and become dull. The owner was dissatisfied, contemplating either a high-quality (and expensive) repaint or buying a new yacht altogether. We traveled to Malta, where the yacht was located, and in six weeks, restored it to an almost new appearance. The question of selling the yacht was quickly put to rest, especially since the new design from the shipyard failed to impress. **2. The Reality of Polishing:** It was no surprise to me that the current polishing methods used on most yachts do not provide long-term results. I understand the frustration of many owners, yacht managers, and captains, but it's important to acknowledge that you can't expect high-quality work for the lowest price. On the flip side, 95% of polishing companies, especially local ones, often fail to deliver satisfactory results. They try their best, but it rarely convinces. **3. The Common Problems:** There is often a lack of capacity and time because the painting is usually the last thing on the schedule. Poor washing equipment onboard and bad water quality also contribute significantly to the quick reoccurrence of fading. There is substantial room for improvement on many yachts in this regard, but that's another story! 😊 **4. The Transformation:** When we finished our work, no one could believe that our Diamonding System had achieved such a brilliant shine. Even experienced painters would ask twice, "Is this newly painted?" No, it wasn’t! I would like to take this opportunity to thank the yacht’s management team for their outstanding support and patience. The conditions were indeed tough due to the state of the paint. We worked in a hall, using only a scissor lift and later a cherry picker. **5. There is a huge amount of information to be transferred to a potential buyer. When it comes to visual information, relying on incomplete data such as a few renders and a layout means that much of that story is not told. The buyer has a patchy mental picture, which leads to doubt and uncertainty in the product. The aim of such a virtual experience is to maximise clarity. ❤️ Selling new build yachts is also about emotion. Building such a vessel is highly personal, and clients often put a lot of themselves into the build. As a result, a deep connection is formed between the yacht and its (future) owners, which shipyards should nurture and encourage at every step of the journey. Being able to freely walk through their creation reinforces the emotional bond between a buyer and his future yacht, and so does experiencing various times of day or lighting scenarios. 😅 Selling new build yachts is hard. Competition is very high, and shipyards need to stand out among their peers by offering customer experiences which are in tune with the times (like luxury real estate, fashion, and automotive industries are already doing).
