Switch Stacking Technology: Widely Adopted in Many Small Business Data Centers Switch stacking technology is well-known to many people, and it's widely adopted by numerous small and medium-sized enterprises. Its configuration's simplicity provides device redundancy and enhances bandwidth, making it a preferred choice for many businesses. However, with the rapid advancement of cloud computing, data centers are gradually moving away from stacking. The fundamental reasons lie in some drawbacks of stacking technology: Firstly, stacking belongs to a single control plane, leading to wastage of forwarding performance; Secondly, upgrades and cuts pose significant challenges, particularly fatal in data centers; Third, stack splitting can occur during subsequent device operations without DAD detection during power outages. Consequently, stacking in current data center setups is gradually being replaced by MLAG technology. MLAG, or Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation, aggregates across devices, integrating the advantages of stacking and VRRP while mitigating their drawbacks. It's believed that MLAG technology will dominate in the future. #cloudcomputing #datacenter #switchstacking #MLAG
