Rainbow, a digitally enabled managing general underwriter based in San Francisco, California, announced raising $8 million in Series A funding led by Zigg Capital. The MGU says the financing, which closed in the fourth quarter of 2024, will accelerate plans to expand its specialized underwriting approach to additional business verticals, with Rainbow’s second program recently launching in select states, followed by a nationwide rollout. https://lnkd.in/gZBzk_3Z

Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. has appointed Cyril M. as Managing Director and Head of EMEA Insurance Solutions. Martin will be responsible for developing and managing the insurance client base in the EMEA region and building insurance analytics globally. He joins Oaktree from Aviva Investors, where he served as Head of Investment Solutions. Martin will be based in London and report to Greg Halagan, CFA, CAIA, Oaktree's Managing Director and Global Head of Insurance Solutions (source: Alternative Credit Investor).

Front Street Re’s new CEO, Edison Fong, FSA, CFA, FCIA, MAAA, CERA, looks to develop reinsurtech partnerships. “As a reinsurer, one of our primary goals is to provide reinsurance as a service. One of our Clients, a life insurance boutique focused on the ultra-high-net-worth market, brought us in to analyze a portfolio of policies (7 policies, totaling $38 million) insuring one of their clients. The Trustees of the two Trusts that owned the policies wanted to see if there was something that could increase their cash position and lessen the ongoing premium burden. Ultimately, they determined it was best to sell 2 policies. Allianz Life has bolstered its annuity operations by launching Sconset Re, a Bermuda-based reinsurance company. Capitalized with private equity investments, Sconset Re will reinsure a $4 billion block of fixed indexed annuities, with Allianz's subsidiary PIMCO managing most of the investment portfolio. This move not only reinforces Allianz's position in the expanding annuity market but may amplify its competitiveness, evident by its particularly current 13% market share in indexed annuities.
