Wooden packaging refers to the use of wood materials for creating containers, crates, pallets, boxes, and other types of packaging used for the storage, protection, and transportation of goods. This type of packaging is commonly used in various industries due to its durability, strength, and ability to protect contents from damage during transit. 1. Types of Wooden Packaging: 1A. Pallets: Flat structures used to support goods in a stable manner while being lifted by forklifts, pallet jacks, or conveyors. 1B. Crates: Large wooden boxes with or without lids, often used for shipping heavy or bulky items. 1C. Boxes: Smaller wooden containers used for packaging and shipping smaller items. 1D. Barrels: Cylindrical wooden containers traditionally used for storing liquids like wine and oil. 2. Advantages: 2A. Durability: Wooden packaging is robust and can handle heavy loads. 2B. Protection: Provides good protection against impact and environmental factors. 2C. Reusability: Often reusable and recyclable, making it an eco-friendly option. 2D. Customizability: Can be easily customized to fit specific product dimensions and requirements. 3. Considerations: 3A. Weight: Wooden packaging can be heavier than alternatives like plastic or cardboard, which might impact shipping costs. 3B. Treatment: Wood used for international shipping must often be treated to prevent the spread of pests and diseases (e.g., ISPM 15 standard). 3C. Moisture: Wood can absorb moisture, which might affect both the packaging and the goods inside if not properly managed. 4. Sustainability: 4A. Wooden packaging is considered sustainable if sourced from responsibly managed forests. Certification systems like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) ensure that the wood is harvested in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. 5. Applications: 5A. Widely used in industries such as agriculture, automotive, electronics, and logistics for transporting various products ranging from food items to machinery. We made it into another trend report. If you want to talk about getting trendy, give me a DM.
We're pleased to share that Stylus has published their Packaging Futures Report 2024-25. This latest report focuses on the trend evolution of packaging from past, present to future, ultimately leading to designing for better behaviour, it includes comments and examples from a variety of experts and brands within the industry. Morrama was featured in the Finding the Best Plastic Alternative section "The new refillable shower gel by British brand Wild also comes packaged in a compostable bottle, made from bamboo and plant starch, placed inside a protective aluminium pump container in its entirety. Jo Barnard, founder of Morrama, the London-based studio behind the design, told Stylus: 'Decanting has always been frustrating. Being able to simply open the vessel and drop the refill in is quick, easy and a much nicer experience. There's a huge opportunity for bio-materials in packaging applications, but we must be careful where we use them - everything is context specific.' This report is used by companies like Diageo and Mars Food & Nutrition to make their next decisions for strategy and product development. 2 years ago, when my Mons Royale merino shirt was too ragged to wear... anywhere, really, I buried it in our compost heap. I figured, let's see what happens. I cut off all the seams (assuming the thread was polyester) and cut the fabric into strips. If the thing really was 100% merino, I figured, it'd be gone within a year or two. And if it wasn't, I'd know - the same way I found out that tea bags were made of plastic fibres (as even 7 years later the annoying balls of plastic "fluff" keep coming up in my garden soil. Stupid things!) 2 years down the line, the t-shirt isn't gone. Yet. It's gone through 5 cycles of compost turning, and the fabric is still recognisable as fabric. But it's no longer orange or blue, and it's ripping easily. So I reckon 3 years is what it takes in my garden compost for a merino to decompose. Swanndri experiment (link below) looks that it'll be a bit more than that, but it's a heavier fabric. *** It's clothes, but it's also construction. I am looking into using Terra Lana's dagmat as a below-deck weedmat. Being 100% wool, it's thick enough to prevent weeds, but porous enough to let the rainwater go down. And once the deck reaches its end of life, the dagmat will have either degraded enough - or if not, we'll just pick it up and compost it. Sometime before I bought my house, someone had used plastic weedmat somewhere in my garden. I don't know where - but I do know that I am still picking up little blue "threads" of weedmat from the soil all throughout our section. Because it doesn't actually degrade - it just breaks into ever smaller, and smaller pieces, going... everywhere. But it doesn't disappear. And it pisses me off. https://lnkd.in/gK8zMKvB

What you are looking at here is the bottom of a perfectly good, flat cardboard box, designed for carrying quarts or pints of fruit--in this case, it happens to be strawberries, but it could be blackberries, raspberries, or cherries, all of which happen to be in season (hallelujah!) now in northern Michigan, where I live. WHY is the reuse of this carton 'prohibited' and 'punishable by law'? The order for the circular economy: refuse, reuse, refurbish/repair, and THEN recycle. This is not a single use package. The design is for the box to carry plastic or paper/cardboard (which arguably could be single-use) containers of fruit. But somewhere, there is a law that PROHIBITS the re-use of this box, and the warning is fairly threatening. I'm curious as to why this is a good thing? And who thinks it. I, on the other hand, will be a rebel. I'm taking it with me to the farm to pick berries this afternoon, but I won't mention the name of the farm to protect the innocent..... #Reuse #Recycle #CircularEconomy

My reusable make up wipes are one of my all time best sellers, this is why I keep making them in new fabrics 🫶 Top stitching seals the edges of the cotton and towelling together, helps to keep the shape over time, and makes a decorative look on the top 😍 #reusable #Sustainability #makeupremoval #makeup #howto #sewing #sew #sewingmachine #howimadeit #SmallBusiness #smallbusinessbigdreams

Packaging fail: Tropicana's $50 million lesson Who knew a carton redesign could be so costly? Back in 2009, Tropicana, a major juice brand, decided to shake things up with a new look for their North American packaging. They went bold! Unique elements like an orange-shaped cap and a sleek, premium design seemed like an upgrade. ✨ But guess what? Customers HATED it. Why? The new design strayed too far from the familiar Tropicana look. People simply couldn't recognize their favorite OJ on the shelf anymore. After just a few weeks, Tropicana went crawling back to the old design, losing an estimated $50 MILLION in sales. Ouch! What do YOU think? Did Tropicana's new design go too far? Let me know in the comments! #TropicanaFail #PackagingMatters #BrandRecognition #MarketingMistake
