Today’s playlist spotlight - “Wild Wild West” by Will Smith “With Artemus, from the start of this, runnin the game, James West, tamin the West, remember the name, We’re goin straight to the Wild, Wild West” The corporate landscape is one often referred to by various phrases (ex. “Wild Wild West, “rat race”, “dog-eat-dog world”, “small fish in a big pond”). It is imperative to understand the context of the environment from an inclusive point of view, as well as the overall culture and team dynamics. Being aware of these elements will help your chances of professional growth and a shared sense of belongingness.

CEO-S co-founder and veteran CEO educator Joel Trammell was on Jeff Crilley's The Jeff Crilley Show! Joel and Jeff discussed the different tools startup #CEOs need vs. those needed by CEOs whose companies are operating at scale. The tools you used to get the company started are not what you need when you get to 100, 200, or 5,000 employees. At that point, you need a different mental model. You need a framework. You need CEO-S. We have seats still available for our October Masterclass! If you are interested in learning more, visit the link is in the comments.
You're the CEO of a very small company, and then it begins to grow. Whatever tools you were using in your toolkit when the company was small don't work when it's a mid-sized company. And heaven forbid you become a large company, and you're still working with those same essential tools in your toolkit. Somebody who knows that very well is joining us from our Austin studios. Joel Trammell with the CEO-S.

There's been almost endless chatter about why the indie wave is rolling so strong in Australian advertising. I probably can't add much more to it, so instead I'll say - what a treat. Each of these shops is trying to do something differently. To have an opinion. To be flexible and interested and excited. I can't think of anything better for the industry. More choice for clients and staff, more chances to do things differently, more opportunities for real competition. More chances to advocate for a more equitable industry. At the same time, a chance to stand together properly about what is and isn't good for the industry, to advocate for meaningful change in everything - from how we run pitches to how we treat our people. The networks have a role to play here too, of course. But flexibility isn't their big strength - and that's okay. If you'd told me two years ago the ad industry would be this vibrant and exciting, I'd probably have laughed. How good is change, hey.
To all the indies (new and old), stay nimble and keep evolving. It's our competitive advantage and to the benefit of our clients. Mumbrella Alex Sol Watts Poem

What makes a company truly great to work with? Is it just about skills and results—or could it be something more? Let me challenge your thinking: Look for a team that genuinely enjoys working together, that knows how to work hard and have fun. At Blue Compass, we believe in that balance. Every year, we break into smaller teams to compete, collaborate, and just have fun together during our Blue Circle Games—an afternoon filled with food, drinks, and activities that test our problem-solving, teamwork, and even our competitive edge. Last Friday’s event was no exception. I had the honor of inviting some friends and old colleagues to help out, and they all walked away with the same impression: our team is connected, collaborative, and truly enjoys one another’s company. It's something you can feel, whether it’s in a game or at work. Great weather, great competition, great teamwork—and most of all, great relationships. When choosing a partner or vendor, don’t overlook the value of a team that loves working together. That’s what makes a company stand out. What do you value most in a team you partner with? https://lnkd.in/gQMbDrDr

Native culture and its history often go overlooked in mainstream discourse. Until as recently as 1969, Native children were forcibly taken from their families and sent to boarding schools, where they were stripped of their beautiful language and culture. As Elizabeth Cook reported for CBS News, the U.S. government operated over 400 boarding schools across 37 states and territories with the aim of assimilating Indigenous children into White society and expediting the appropriation of tribal lands. Last month, I had the privilege of speaking with Neil Zarama, who shared his journey of being raised in Columbia by adopted parents before reconnecting with his Chiricahua Apache family as an adult. Our conversation was enlightening; we delved into topics ranging from the vibrant Native art scene to the invaluable life lessons passed down from his father. Neil also offered insights into the true origins of symbols like the whirling log (swastika) and emphasized the importance of community support through conscious spending within your community. Beyond Neil's passion for vintage motorcycles lies a profound connection to his Native heritage, evident in his craftsmanship of Navajo jewelry. Utilizing silver items dating back to the 1800s, Neil melts them down into ingots to create unique pieces, sparking controversial discussion online. While opinions may vary, I think it's dope. If you're not a motorcycle enthusiast, I assure you there's something of value in these stories. I invite you to watch the video, engage with the content, and join the conversation. Let's elevate awareness of Native culture and support Indigenous artists and communities in meaningful ways.
