Why do we do what we do at The Stewpot? Because every person matters—the ones without homes, those living in poverty, and those on street corners. Since 1975, we’ve been #ServingSecondChances, adapting to meet the needs of our Dallas neighbors. What began as a soup kitchen in the basement of First Presbyterian Church has evolved into a comprehensive hub of support services for those in need. This has been an energy-filled #NorthTexasGivingDay and we truly appreciate your support! If you'd like to support our mission, there's still time: https://lnkd.in/gRBiY4Bh.

💔 at least we are learning from this. I for one have gained massive knowledge in Fire Safety more so after completing my level 4 Diploma.
It’s been seven years since the fire at Grenfell Tower. Today, we’re remembering the 72 people who lost their lives and thinking of everyone affected by the tragedy. The anniversary offers a poignant moment to reflect on the changes we’ve made since, to ensure our homes are safe places for our customers to live. https://ow.ly/eHGs50Sib74

What a powerful conversation this was to hear today from 3 highly esteemed animal campaigners and spreading the word about Helping Rhinos. Key take aways: 1. Changing a belief system that is 10’s of thousands of years is not going to happen overnight. But if a talk like today happens and even one person talks to another about it and that person tells someone….then eventually, 10 people will know about it. 2. We need to start using language that references animal rights more than animal welfare. 3. These are hard to hear conversations but must happen if change will even be contemplated. There are true heros out there who bear witness to, advocate for, change policies and legislation to not only save vulnerable animals but the lives of humans and the whole ecosystem - from worms and bugs in the soil to leaves at the top of a forest canopy and everything in between. Thank you Dr Marc Abraham OBE for facilitating this conversation 💚 #helpingtherhinos

Working for a purpose led organisation is super important for me when choosing a new role. We all want to be a part of something meaningful—it’s in our DNA as humans to find our purpose. For 50 years, Bidvest Noonan has been a business that makes a difference in the world—and I’m so proud today to share our purpose statement which honours this 50-year legacy and the exceptional people who have made this business what it is. Our purpose is to proudly create safer and healthier communities today, for tomorrow. Bidvest Noonan is a business rooted in relationships—a business where our people play a vital role in the communities and towns where we live and work. There’s no better way to tell the story of our purpose than for you to meet the people who inspire us and serve as an example of what it means to proudly create safer and healthier communities. As we look to the future, it’s these relationships—with our people and customers—that will enable another 50 years of success and positive impact on the world.
Last week, we launched our purpose: to proudly create safer and healthier communities today, for tomorrow. As part of our ongoing Purpose Hero series, we are sharing stories of colleagues who truly embody this purpose and make a difference in our communities. Today, we share Marilyn’s story. Marilyn, a member of our team at Dinnington Interchange, recounts an incident where, while carrying out her regular duties, she noticed a man in distress and immediately took action. What followed revealed the true power of quick thinking and compassion in the face of an emergency. #Purpose #Facman #PurposeDriven #CommunityImpact #BidvestNoonan

If you know me, you already know my take on this. There are no such things as safe or unsafe 'places' - only safe or unsafe 'people'. Yet another unfortunate example below. Just last year I did two separate 3-hour professional in-service seminars for #churches, #privateschools and #nonprofits on both sides of the DFW area addressing numerous physical, data and reputational concerns for the same at the leadership level. But I also offer the same at the employee/staff and even volunteer level. Even the current #onlinecourse #onlinetraining I offer for "internal/in-house employees" addresses many of the main concerns. But technology can only address so much, especially where 'prevention' (vs. reaction) can be applied prior to such incidents. For any #insurancebroker or #insurancecompany interested in helping clients address the same, let's also talk. I know someone who can help, online and in-person. #defensebydesign

Today is the 103rd anniversary of the #TulsaRaceMassacre in Oklahoma, a horrendous display of hate that forever altered the course of history. From May 31-June 1, 1921, a White mob in Tulsa violently stormed the prosperous Black community of Greenwood known as #“BlackWallStreet” and engaged in looting, burning down of homes and businesses, and indiscriminately attacked and murdered Black Residents. Those responsible for protecting Greenwood, the National Guard, and local authorities, actively participated in the atrocities. As I reflected on the profound lessons this #Massacre offers the world today, I recall my 2022 interview in Ghana with #ViolaFletcher, now 110 and the oldest living survivor of the Massacre. #MotherFletcher, as she is affectionately known to African Americans, is an inspiring pillar of resilience, forgiveness, faith, and endurance in the face of adversity -- these are lessons for the world. Her book says it all “Don’t Let Them Bury My Story.” I pay tribute to her today and the community of the #GreenwoodDistrict of #Tulsa, Oklahoma. Before it was taken away in a systemic failure of justice, this community demonstrated that economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and excellence against all odds are achievable. Humans tend to forget, but humanity remembers. As we commemorate this anniversary, let us honor the legacy of Black Wall Street by building a future together where life, liberty and prosperity are accessible to all. Refuse to bury the stories! https://lnkd.in/gtKuCgSM #BlackWallStreet #Tulsa1921 #EconomicEmpowerment #Resilience #SocialJustice #InclusiveGrowth
