In Rome, a thousand-year-old city, built mostly with #travertine , stands an important national monument, made between the XIX and XX centuries with Botticino marble from the area of Brescia. The processing of #marble used for this monument is a testimony of the transition of the cutting technology, from the abrasion system to cutting with #diamondtools . Infact, it’s at the beginning of the 20th century that diamond tools for #stoneprocessing began to spread, changing the speed and precision of #cutting . This evolution has led to the realization of increasingly sophisticated, complex and innovative works and structures. The technology for working #naturalstone has then evolved rapidly during the XX century, in line with industrial progress, infrastructure and the opening of quarries all over the world. #stonehistory2

#NewArticle Dominant discourses framing the reuse of industrial heritage in the context of mega-events: a relationship matrix approach Florence Graezer Bideau, Huishu Deng & Helena Roux The reuse of industrial heritage sites has become increasingly prevalent in the context of hosting mega-events. This paper aims to investigate this trend, specifically in the context of Olympic Games or World Expos, and its impact on urban regeneration strategies. It introduces a methodological tool, namely, the relationship matrix, to identify key factors from ‘best practices’ criteria for managing industrial sites and planning mega-event legacies. While guidelines and strategies for mega-events and industrial heritage have evolved towards a proactive people-centred approach, our findings still reveal a bias towards material renewal in dominant discourses during the planning phase. This bias often overlooks or even excludes the memories and experiences of local communities. https://lnkd.in/eQ_VMfqC

1738 SPATIAL ATTACHMENTS and SCOOPED SPACES -Gautam Shah https://lnkd.in/dvxGFc_i Verandahs have several architecturally synonymous forms, and as many unique names. There are two functional qualities that are consistent across all types of verandahs ‘like’ interventive spaces. These occur in tropical climates, between the outdoor and indoors, and reflect an immaculate identity of free or informal space. Some house forms have no outward transgressions, but inwardly scooped areas.

#Integrated #design allows us to work on #complex and #articulated #projects; according to its principles we faced also the #redevelopment of Palazzo Odeon that has been presented yesterday. #newproject #progettocmr #progettocmrinternational
Progetto CMR signs the Integrated Design and Construction Supervision, of the conservative redevelopment of Palazzo Odeon, which has now reached the 100th anniversary mark. The complex, covering a total of more than 15,000 square meters in the City's historic center, has been an asset of historical-artistic interest under the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the Metropolitan City of Milan since 2017. Progetto CMR is working alongside Kryalos SGR, which is promoting the redevelopment of Palazzo Odeon, and Rinascente for the part of the internior spaces it is responsible for. #newproject #renovation #architecturebuilding #progettocmr Fabiola Minas Eleonora Negri Mara Castaldo Bruno Zona Progetto CMR International

RESTORATION: A CONTEMPORARY OUTLOOK The latest issue of Arredo & Città edited by Fondazione Neri - Museo Italiano della Ghisa is out now. The restoration of a cast iron artefact requires a study of the historical sources that have reached us via designs and photos. The restoration work, for which Fondazione Neri provides the indispensable documentation to Neri company, aims to reclaim the original cast iron items both aesthetically and functionally. Restoring the original forms sometimes means reconstructing entire models or irremediably damaged parts, or reinserting elements that had been lost over the years. Connection with history. I have always had the perception that some architectural projects are so strong in terms of identity that, at times, they almost make you forget their original purpose because they are so captivating. A small town located in the Lorraine region bordering Luxembourg, originally built on land rich in iron ore, experienced rapid development due to the expansion of the mining industry. Villerupt and the surrounding communities have come together in an ambitious project to redevelop the disused area, aiming to transform it into a modern and sustainable neighborhood. At the heart of this project stands the Arche, a bold architectural structure that combines digital art, creative industries, and diverse art forms. Designed by K Architectures studio as a place for living and sharing, it hosts a variety of amenities, including bars, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, fablabs, and immersive digital art galleries. The architecture of the Arche, inspired by industrial history and the presence of the monumental supporting wall, reflects a bold and unique design that challenges the boundaries of tradition and innovation. 🙌 What’s your take? # 295 ARCHITECTURE, France 👉 More contents on our website, the link to the featured news is in the first comment below. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write us privately.
