Did you know?   The first flush toilet was invented in 1596 by Sir John Harrington. He installed it in the royal palace, but the invention never gained popularity due to the queen denying him permission to manufacture more. The lack of sewer networks or septic tanks may have hindered the widespread use of Harrington's toilet. However, one can also speculate that the upper classes would have followed the queen's lead, and the invention could have become popular. Harrington's toilet was ahead of its time, but it didn't gain immediate acceptance. It took another couple of centuries for people to refine his design and make it more practical and widely used.
