SNJDC Member Hopeworks has received a $660,000 grant from the Haines Family Foundation of Egg Harbor City to support students with scholarships as they learn to be EMTs and medical assistants. “Through this effort, Hopeworks aims to place over 68 young adults into living wage positions in the medical field, generating over $1.8M in additional wages in communities”. Graduate medical education — also known as GME or medical residency — plays a vital role in shaping health care delivery in California. GME is the final step in training required for a physician to receive a license to practice medicine in California. Over the past decade, the state has seen a consistent increase in residency programs in an effort to meet the demand of students seeking to become physicians and to meet the state’s need for a representative, well-trained health care workforce. UTRGV and Texas State Technical College in Harlingen recently partnered to provide students with a top-tier education and training in medical emergency services. On Monday afternoon, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at ensuring a high-quality educational experience for UTRGV’s physician assistant students and TSTC’s emergency medical services (EMS) paramedic students, which is crucial to their future careers in healthcare.
