𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸! Recently, we reviewed a client’s renewal premium, which had increased by 45%. Concerned by the significant jump, we reached out to the insurer to understand the reasons behind the increase. The increase was due to claims history from a prior period and the insurer not fully applying the rate loadings during the last renewal. We had also explored alternative quotes, but most insurers had either declined or offered higher premiums, making this policy the best option for the client. While discussing the renewal with the underwriter, we simply asked if there was any room to move—and it paid off. We were able to 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 $𝟮,𝟭𝟬𝟬, 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝟯𝟬%. Considering the claims history from previous years, this outcome was much fairer and aligned with the client’s circumstances. Great advice that I recently received and believe in sharing: When a new client reaches out for your services, always ask if there are other partners or decision-makers involved. I recently worked on a quote for insurance on a multi-family apartment complex. I secured a great quote, but at the final stage, I received an email from the carrier stating that the client had taken the quote to their existing insurance agent. When I called the client to understand the situation, he explained that his partner had requested it. I don't have an issue with clients wanting to work with their existing agent or seeing if I can compete. However, I do take issue when I provide a great offer, only for it to be taken to their old agent. Therefore, when taking on a new client, make sure to engage all decision-makers. $𝟴,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱, 𝗜𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁! We recently advocated a successful dispute for one of our clients who faced a challenging situation following water ingress to their property after a major rain event. The insurer initially planned to decline the claim, pointing to previous roof repairs—including the use of silicone—as evidence of insufficient maintenance. Understanding the critical details and timeline was key to our approach. We acknowledged that while the roof had undergone prior repairs, they were conducted with the expectation that they were performed to a professional standard. We also clarified a misunderstanding regarding the repair attempts that occurred post-claim but before the insurer's assessment. This misunderstanding led the insurer to believe that there were multiple failed repair attempts prior to the event, which wasn’t the case. Our persistence paid off when the insurer overturned their decision, agreeing to cover the resultant damage and settling the claim for $8,000—a significant win for our client. As part of the resolution, our client agreed to undertake necessary maintenance to the roof, ensuring their property remains in good condition.
