The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) this week announced $3.6 million in grants to help address the cybersecurity skills shortage. As part of the project, 18 education and community organizations across 15 states will be granted roughly $200,000 each to educate future cybersecurity employees. "Our economic and national security depend on a highly skilled workforce capable of defending against ever-increasing cyber threats. By investing in our cybersecurity workforce, we are not just filling a critical gap. We are creating a future where Americans have access to the training they need to secure high-quality, good-paying jobs,” NIST Director Laurie E. Locascio said. #NIST #StrategicGeneration #stratGen

State-sponsored threat actors, ransomware gangs, and their affiliates are well-funded, well-trained, and already deployed. The pace of digital disruption is accelerating, and right now, healthcare and critical infrastructure across North America are bearing the brunt of this disruption. At the same time, we face a dearth of trained cybersecurity professionals equipped to combat this evolving threat (500,000 open positions!). So I support the adoption of the PIVOTT Act by the 118th Congress. This legislation aims to: 🔒 Train 10,000 new cybersecurity professionals annually through scholarships for community colleges and technical programs. 🛠️ Bridge the skills gap by targeting entry-level talent and career changers. 🏛️ Strengthen national cybersecurity defense while expanding opportunities for Americans to pursue rewarding cyber careers. The PIVOTT Act isn’t just about securing systems—it’s about securing opportunities and resilience for our future. If you agree, reach out to your lawmakers and lend your support. Together, we can tackle the workforce shortage and build a stronger, more resilient cybersecurity posture for our critical infrastructure. #nationalsecurity #cybersecurity #cyberworkforce #DHS #CISA

🎓Investing in Education🎓 This week, NIST revealed a $3.6 million grant initiative aimed at mitigating the cybersecurity skills shortage by funding 18 educational and community organizations across 15 states, with each organization receiving approximately $200,000. 💸 These funds are intended to support the education and training of future cybersecurity professionals through the creation of Regional Alliances and Multistakeholder Partnerships to Stimulate (RAMPS) cybersecurity education and workforce development projects, tailored to meet local organizational needs. The grants, managed by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), will benefit a diverse group of recipients, including Benedict College, CyberUp, and the Women’s Society of Cyberjutsu, among others, each receiving $200,000, with other organizations receiving slightly less. 👨💼 NIST Director Laurie E. Locascio highlighted the critical importance of building a skilled cybersecurity workforce for both economic and national security, framing the investment as a step towards securing high-quality jobs for Americans. Additionally, NIST has opened the door for 15 more RAMPS grants, inviting applications until May 24, 2024, which can be applied for here ➡️ https://buff.ly/4b5yvgD 📣 Have you experienced a shortage of qualified individuals in your organization? There are moves to improve/increase the cyber security corps, which is desirable - but I still adhere to the principal that Software Engineers are a first line of defense for cybersecurity and we need to step up and improve our methods, training and knowledge. Cybersecurity is served by specialization but not to the detriment of making sure that EVERYONE in the software/hardware pipeline is cyber-aware and cyber-active. https://lnkd.in/e-qQBRk9
