Inspired by Marlene Dietrich’s iconic character in 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘯 𝘉𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘯, there’s a clear parallel in the world of electric vehicles. Like a true diva, EV batteries are complex and sensitive—requiring careful attention to unlock their full potential. 💡 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: A few weeks ago, our colleagues Dr. Ulrich Guddat, Dr. Oliver Spreitzer, and Arndt v. Gregory chaired the #AutomotiveBatteryTechSummit in Berlin, where they engaged with key experts and executives from top European automotive firms. The discussions revealed several critical insights into the latest advancements, trends, and the industry's push towards electromobility: 1. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐕 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 (𝐁𝐌𝐒): The development of in-house BMS was highlighted as crucial for improving power and energy management, ensuring optimal, reliable, and safe battery operations. 2. With new cell chemistries, shifting geopolitical streams, and leaps in innovation that sometimes outpace even the boldest predictions, the future of the EV market is anything but static. While some shifts surpass players’ expectations, others bring record losses—all the way to reversing gigafactories decisions. What’s clear, however, is that the world is going electric—in both transport and stationary applications. But what will this transition ultimately look like? That’s a question still unfolding. What remains constant in this ever-evolving landscape is the need for diagnostics that deliver high certainty and clarity—quickly and effectively. In a briefing published by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), the correlation between the rise in light-duty electric vehicle fires and the growing EV market share was carefully detailed. While the overall frequency of these incidents remains rather low, it emphasizes the need for proactive safety measures while the situation is still manageable.
