The United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have banded together on a powerful new treaty set to regulate the rights of consumers and users when it comes to artificial intelligence. Last week, the three governments, as well as a few others, finally signed the agreed-upon final version, which contains fewer sticking points than previous versions. The AI Convention mandates that each of the signatories work to “ensure that activities within the lifecycle of artificial intelligence systems are fully consistent with human rights, democracy and the rule of law.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/3Tkd6JW

The US, UK, and EU have signed the world’s first binding AI treaty: the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI, Human Rights, Democracy, and the Rule of Law. This agreement ensures AI development and use in both public and private sectors follow principles of transparency, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Signatories must assess and mitigate AI's negative impacts and provide remedies for violations of fundamental rights. They will need to determine whether new legislation is needed or if existing laws, such as human rights law, are sufficient.
