When designing a part for hot-dip galvanizing, be sure to design weep holes. If a custom fabrication that is about to be hot-dip galvanized has any air pockets, the heat from the process could cause an explosion and result in a coating failure. To prevent air pockets from forming, galvanizers will torch holes in the product at all the corners that could potentially trap air. When possible, we like to get ahead of this problem so that we can cut the weep holes cleanly with a laser rather than having them burned with a torch. We recommend designing weep holes into your product for this reason. This consideration is especially crucial for applications such as pipe handrails and square tubing that use welded end caps. Sandblasting - uses compressed air as a power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray the material at high speed onto the surface of the workpiece to be processed, so that the appearance or shape of the outer surface changes. Due to the impact and cutting action of the abrasive on the surface of the workpiece, the surface of the workpiece obtains a certain degree of cleanliness and different roughness, so that the mechanical properties of the workpiece surface are improved, the fatigue resistance of the workpiece, and the adhesion between it and the coating are improved, the durability of the coating is extended, and it is also conducive to the leveling and decoration of the coating. Purpose of sandblasting 1. Cleaning the surface of the workpiece It can be used to treat the rust layer of the metal, the residual salt and oxide layer on the surface of the heat-treated parts, the oxide layer on the surface of the rolled parts, the oxide layer on the surface of the forged parts, the oxide layer on the surface of the welded parts, the molding sand and oxide layer on the surface of the casting, the residual dirt and tiny burrs on the surface of the machined parts, and the surface of the old parts, so as to remove the surface adhesion layer and reveal the original color of the base. 2. Pretreatment of workpiece surface before coating It can be used as a pretreatment process for various electroplating processes, brush plating processes, spraying processes and bonding processes to obtain active surfaces and improve the adhesion between plating, coating and bonding parts. 3. Change the physical and mechanical properties of the workpiece Change the stress state of the workpiece surface, improve the lubrication conditions of the mating parts, and reduce the noise during the movement of the mating parts. It can harden the surface of the workpiece and improve the wear resistance and fatigue resistance of the parts. 4. Polishing of the workpiece surface It can change the roughness of the workpiece surface. Well that's a first.....! A structural steel beam has been fire protected first with primer, and secondly with intumescent paint. Sometime afterwards someone has cored a hole through the steel beam to allow the transfer of cables through. And so the quest begins..... Where do we start working out how to seal this penetration through the steel beam (which part of an EI30 wall)? Do any firestop product manufacturers have tested details through this substrate type? Are there any standard details which can be applied for this application? Will the beam have to be boxed in, to an approved detail (moving the fireline), so the appropriate sealing system can be installed? Will the intumescent coating be compatible with the proposed detail? #SelfCleaningScreens - A perforated plate that supports the sliders is replaced by applying a heavy mesh to the bottom of a standard screen tension ring. The required amount of sliders or cleaners are placed on top of the mesh. The mesh is then epoxy bonded to the ring which sandwiches the cleaners between both mesh screens. The purpose is to speed up change-out time and to eliminate the costly perforated plates which commonly crack and become loose and noisy. It is most economical to return these units to the factory for replacement of the top mesh since the sliders and support mesh in most applications should last a lot longer than the finer screen that does the sizing. Specifying Coloured Stainless Steel Finishes and Their Applications Stainless steel can be coloured either by the application of paint or by chemical treatments. Both are durable in normal service, but damage can be difficult to repair, especially for finishes produced by chemical treatment.
