Here are some important tips we've gathered on how to identify fake job scams from the Jobright.ai community. I will share them to help job seekers steer clear of similar situations:
𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲: If it's a company you're unfamiliar with, do a thorough check of their website and Linkedin profile. For familiar companies, ensure the email domain matches their official site.
𝐁𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬: Some agencies, especially those frequently mentioning 'secret clients' or posting high-salary jobs in multiple locations, may not be offering legitimate opportunities. They could be primarily collecting resumes rather than actively recruiting for genuine positions.
𝐓𝐨𝐨 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬: Exercise skepticism with openings that seem overly generous, such as unusually high salaries or extremely flexible work conditions.
𝐁𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬: Be cautious of email addresses with subtle misspellings or non-corporate domains like "@gmail.com". These are often signs of scams.
𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: For remote positions, request a video interview, like Zoom. Post-interview, validate the interviewer’s profile on LinkedIn to confirm their authenticity.
𝐍𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬: Legitimate companies will never ask for payment for anything, including equipment or training. Any such request is a sure sign of a scam.
𝐃𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Be cautious of the same job posted in multiple cities, or roles requiring different language skills unusual for the company's market.
𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤: Paste parts of the job description into Google to see if it’s copied from another company's listing, a sign of lazy or fraudulent recruitment.
Several of the above tips have already been implemented in the job filtering at Jobright.ai, and we will gradually add other rules as well:
