As someone deeply involved in guiding college applicants, let me stress the importance of infusing admission essays with personal insight. Unfortunately, students usually miss the mark on this... 🔍 Here is why it matters: Your essay isn't just about grades and achievements—it's your chance to showcase who you are beyond academic metrics. If you took essays out of the admissions process, those applications would look pretty similar; this is 100% an opportunity to set yourself apart. 💡 How to Add Insight? 1️⃣ Reflect on Personal Growth: Share moments that have shaped your values and aspirations. How have these experiences influenced your journey? 2️⃣ Highlight Your Perspective: What makes your story distinctive? How do your passions and beliefs shape your worldview? 3️⃣ Connect Past Experiences to Future Goals (when possible): Articulate how your background and academic interests align with your future ambitions. What drives your passion for your chosen field? 4️⃣ Stay Authentic: Be genuine in sharing your thoughts and emotions—it's what makes your essay compelling and memorable. Your true voice (yes, speaking voice) should come through in your writing. 🌟 The Impact of Insight Admissions teams are looking for candidates who will bring unique perspectives and contribute meaningfully to their campus community. Your essay is your opportunity to demonstrate how you'll enrich their academic environment. 📝 Let's Work Together on Your Essays If you're navigating the college application process and want guidance on crafting essays that reflect your true self, I'm here to help. 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁-𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀: 𝗔 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 As college application deadlines approach, ensuring that your application is polished and error-free is crucial. With competition at an all-time high, small mistakes can make a big difference in your chances of admission. Here are some common last-minute mistakes and how to avoid them: ◉ Repurposing Essays Incorrectly Be careful when reusing essays across applications. Double-check that college-specific names or details are changed accordingly. ◉ Over-reliance on Spell Check Don’t just rely on automated spell checks. Proofread manually or ask a teacher or counsellor for a second pair of eyes. ◉ Not Confirming Submission of All Materials Please make sure all materials, such as transcripts and test scores, have been sent and received by the colleges. ◉ Ignoring Directions Always follow the application instructions closely—whether it’s word count, resume length, or submission format. ◉ Redundancy in Essays Avoid repeating information. Use your essays to showcase different aspects of your personality and achievements. ◉ Waiting Until the Last Minute Submitting right before the deadline can lead to technical issues. Aim to submit a few days in advance to avoid problems. ◉ Not Seeking Help It’s okay to ask for assistance. Reach out to counselors or independent college advisors if you’re unsure about any part of the process. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 The college application process is one of the most important steps toward achieving your academic goals. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure that your application reflects your best effort. If you need extra guidance, don’t hesitate to seek help from experts or professionals. #CollegeAdmissions #Education #ApplicationTips #StudyAbroad #HigherEducation #Scholarships #CollegeBound #CollegeEssays #StudentSuccess #CollegeApplications

Today I’m focusing on the third real stage of the academic career: Planting Your Flag. This career stage is closely linked to tenure, so it's a crucial stage that revolves around declaring your academic mission and showing why you're indispensable to your institution. This stage can be high-stakes and nerve-wracking, but it's also empowering as you refine the articulation of your work and academic voice. 🎧https://lnkd.in/ebvQrXTy When you’re thinking about your writing during the Planting Your Flag career stage, really think about curation, think about selectivity, and think about writing an academic mission statement and then publishing things that support that statement. Then your publications will tell your career story. #academia #academicwriting #academicpublishing #academicwritingamplified

A lot of people have entered my DM to say, "Eunice, I see a lot of Academic CVs online that have a section for research experience, and I don't have any research experience. What should I do?" Listen, the application process can indeed be overwhelming, and not having research experience can be discouraging for some. However, if you completed your undergraduate or master's degree and wrote a project before finishing, this can be included as research experience in your academic CV. Don't be discouraged in your study abroad process. With the right information, good essay structure, proper packaging of yourself, and timely submission of your documents, the sky is just the beginning. I hope this helps someone out there. P:S: I was invited to speak at event.
