Indeed, it was an excellent annual conference! I think the very fact that we identified so many challenges in Shared Urban Mobility will improve the final result! Why? Because we sat down and really tried to think how to overcome the challenges together. Therefore, it seems to me that by 2026, when the project is finished, we will really be able to learn a lot about the field, and also teach many more cities which are the best practices to implement. And another important thing: the project seeks to create valid scientific knowledge that will enable more efficient implementation in other European cities. But for me - the policy issue is no less important! A better policy is created, among other things, in the working talks that take place alongside the conference. This way we could share information about the SUM projects, and other transportation projects in the 9 cities. This learning will take us all forward. In the future we can probably give specific examples...
And that's a wrap! The SUM Project General Assembly finished yesterday after a 2-day event in Athens. ✔ During the second day, both the leading and following #LivingLabs presented their activities up to date as well as a timeline of all measures to be implemented in detail. At this stage, representatives of different Living Labs had also the chance to talk and exchange with each other. ✔Following this, Hassan Mahdavi from VEDECOM and Daniel Alberto Herrera Meek from POLIS Network, guided the audience through WP5's latest developments: the design of business models for the Living Labs; Economic, environmental, social and technical assessment of the solutions implemented in living labs; an expert survey on control and governance; a best practice analysis on Business Operations of Shared Mobility Services as well as #SUMP guidelines and policy recommendations. ✔Lastly, ERTICO - ITS Europe, POLIS Network and University of Twente presented the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities and plans for WP6. Stay tuned for many outreach activities that are coming! Thank you to everyone who attended, specially to the hosts, and for the major contributions to the project! Working together for seamless shared urban mobility 🙌 🚲 To stay up-to-date with the latest news from the Living Labs, please check the news section in SUM Project's website: https://lnkd.in/eNrSNa77 Luce Brotcorne, Lisa Hanselmann, Konstantinos Gkiotsalitis, Daniel Alberto Herrera Meek Jorge Manso García Shadi Sharif Azadeh, Pontus Wallgren , Pauline Klanke, Mesut Can Köseoğlu, Alejandro Tirachini, Hassan Mahdavi, Łukasz Gryga, Aliki Pouliasi, Tom Mauno, Yaron Toren Iuliia Skorykova Chalmers University of Technology, POLIS Network Inria National Technical University of Athens ERTICO - ITS Europe Siemens Mobility, among others #SUMproject #SeamlessUrbanMobility #Penteli #Transport #UrbanMobility #SmartCities #Sustainability #Innovation #Collaboration #EUproject #UrbanMobility

It’s been an energising few days attending the PTAANZ Mode Shift Symposium. Here are a few key takeaways from the many wonderful presenters. Geoff H., TfL: the massive success of the Elizabeth line (37.8% of the patronage is trip generation or mode shift as at September 2023) and the planned introduction on the Superloop bus service. Peter Moth, Auckland Transport: the need for greater engagement when making bus network changes and the importance of being clear about where public feedback sits in the ‘decision wheel’. Anna Bradley, TfNSW: how the Safer Cities Program is engaging and co-designing, with women, girls, and gender diverse people, on place-based approaches, which is improving perceptions of safety with very low-cost interventions. Kent Lundberg, NZ: the decision of Auckland Transport to dedicate 20% of resources to ‘coverage services’ to address equity and to tax themselves through the targeted rate for climate action which is providing between $10-20M in funding for more services outside of peak times. Peter Milward, Queensland Transport and Main Roads: highlighting that the size of the Olympics task is 7.5x the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games task (in terms of athlete numbers). I’d love to hear your key takeaways from the symposium. #PTAANZ #ModeShiftSymposium #publictransport #networkplanning

🌱 Here's an example of how a project like #LifePact can improve our daily lives — and curiously that of our colleague! #LifePact engages citizens and local stakeholders in adapting their outdoor spaces to climate change through nature-based solutions. Join Democratic Society in enabling citizens and communities to take climate action! #CitizenEngagement #StakeholderEngagement #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateAdaptation
On my usual route to work this morning, I cycled alongside this implementation. Part of the #LifePact project, implemented by stad Leuven. Leuven is known to have the longest bar in Europe (consecutive pubs next to each other), now it also has the longest wall-garden. All along the old cemetery wall there is now an "open air museum" that demonstrates any kind of wall-garden citizens could plant in front of their own houses. Hundreds of meters of Nature-based inspiration. A few days of sun, a few days of rain, and it's good to go! Amazing work Baptist Vlaeminck for coming up with this idea, and making it reality! #NatureBasedSolutions #europe

We are excited to announce that Wellbeing, Space, and Society published our new paper 👐 This project is supported by Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) 🔬 In this paper, we report on the potential of art as a tool to promote subjective well-being in urban public spaces through a field experiment in Vienna (Austria). This work is one of the pioneering works investigating such a potential of art in an urban environment😎🏗 We hope this collaborating work using a part of the city of Vienna as our field testing place will be used to inspire discussions on how to make cities more attractive, healthier, and beautiful places to live in 🤝 Our findings suggest: 💞 Interaction with art in an urban street environment reduced feelings of anxiety, stress, and negative mood. 🌲 This effect was as strong as interacting with greenery in the same environment. 💎 When people evaluated the artworks as more beautiful/meaningful and enjoyed the interaction more, they showed greater improvement in wellbeing. 🎤 Raising Our Voices Through Citizen Consultation 👂 One month ago, the Tempelhofer Feld Dialogprozess kicked off with an informative meeting at Hangar 4. Over 150 people gathered for this well-organized discovery session, and I was thrilled to be part of it. Engaging with fellow Berliners of diverse ages and backgrounds has been an exciting experiment. However, many of us still have doubts about the process, and numerous questions remain unanswered. During an interview, I shared my motivations for participating in this citizen consultation: • 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Tempelhofer Feld is crucial to many Berliners and the city itself, symbolizing freedom, innovation through repurposing old infrastructure, providing essential open space, and having a positive ecological impact. • 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: Engaging a diverse range of citizens in this new approach helps prevent disconnection and ensures more inclusive decision-making. • 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: It's vital that this consultation does not lead to short-term, unsustainable building projects. In my next post, I'll share insights from this initial meeting and discuss the challenges ahead. Thanks Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung, Bauen und Wohnen - I look forward to the first actual workshop! #TempelhoferFeld #CitizenEngagement #UrbanDevelopment #Berlin #CommunityConsultation

Branded Trash: Iteration #4 This is the fourth iteration of Branded Trash, a project I’ve been developing over now almost 5 years to explore the relationship between consumerism, branding, and waste. Trash carries layers of identity and meaning, reflecting who we are and the systems we’re part of. As part of Rethinkable Festival, this version of the project invited people to stop and think about what we discard. Through photos and installations, I wanted to challenge how we see waste. It’s not just rubbish—it’s part of a bigger story about how we consume and what we leave behind. How do we decide what’s valuable? Why do brands still speak to us, even in the bin? Big thanks to ReThinkable Festival for backing this vision and making it happen. And to the University of Nova Gorica, Peter Purg, Maks Café and ZRC SAZU – Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts — thank you for being part of this trash mission. Each of you helped give the project depth and bring it to life across the two cities. This project is a way to dig into the contradictions we live with and reflect on how design, waste, and identity collide. I'd love to hear your thoughts. What role do you think branding plays in shaping how we consume—and how we throw things away? Do you notice the stories behind the things you discard? Iteration #4 here: https://lnkd.in/eZhpPnWf
