One of the common myths about helical piles is they can't handle significant lateral loads. Here's why that's false 👇 Some people believe that while a helical pile can deliver plenty of axial strength, they don't have enough integrity to withstand lateral loads. In reality, a helical pile is more than capable of supporting major lateral loads. It all comes down to the soil conditions, pile design, and how they're installed. Yes, if you're dealing with very loose soils AND using a helical pile with a smaller diameter shaft, lateral performance could take a hit. That's why we have a few primary tactics that can be used to overcome this: ➡ Increase shaft diameter, thereby creating more skin friction along the pile. ➡ Install piles at an angle (batter) to greatly enhance lateral capacity. ➡ Tie a group of piles together with a cap, greatly boosting strength. With the application of smart engineering, a helical foundation is more than capable of enduring high lateral loads even in poor quality soils. So, we can consider this myth BUSTED!
