(🎧 encouraged) (Read below) Floppy Disk + Gaffer Tape = Gated Snare Sound . . . This is a really interesting and creative dampening hack that I learned from Justin Heaverin through his video on his page a few years ago. Check his page out cause there’s a lot more where that comes from. 😉 In his video, he was able to play the drum while just tapping the floppy disk onto the hoop because of his light touch. In my situation, I hit hard so I had to think of an additional way to keep the floppy disk secure on the drum. Instead of just using one floppy disk, I taped two together to give a little more control over how they moved from the force of the stick hitting the snare. (Gravity 😉🥁🤓) Then I secured the floppy disks to the hoop of this snare drum by using Gaffer Tape. The end, result was a slightly muffled and gated snare sound that provided a lot of attack and character. Overall, this was a fascinating experiment and encouraged me to go down the rabbit hole of unique sounds. Let’s hear what you guys have to say. Have you ever given this drum hack a try?
