4 months ago, the Cigref organized France 1st digital exchange in Strasbourg (#rns). Together with other industry leaders and 70 CIO of the largest France HQ'd companies, we progressed on identifying the best ways to: - maximize the benefits of the latest technologies - tackle the most visible risks As part of the workgroup dedicated to the "digital resilience", we brainstormed on options available to reduce the dependance on the large digital service providers and associated vendor “lock-in”. Last week's Microsoft / CrowdStrike event demonstrates again why digital resilience is business critical in the context of a high dependency to large digital service providers. We can hope that the worldwide impact of this event will remain an exception; however, similar impacts happen more often at a company level, mainly due to cyber attacks. Shall such event impact the data, here are key success factors to ensure a quality and fast recovery : 1. Be ready and trained - the human factor is critical to mitigate the impacts. 2. Check how long it takes to recover your data - many of the legacy solutions need days / weeks to recover unchecked data - the more recent ones recover healthy data within hours 3. Cyber Security / Data Integrity - before you recover your data, check the integrity of the back-up - Secure a 3rd copy in an air-gapped cyber vault. Set-up a clean room process 4. Simplicity and automation - avoid manual processes - ensure a single platform can manage the full data set. 5.
