Lots of good stuff in this interview, especially about: - The decline of content marketing's effectiveness (and why it makes creating spaces with events even more important) - Hybrid events (I'm also not convinced the juice is worth the squeeze) - The role of virtual events in relation to big live events (think of them as small satellite events throughout the year) While he doesn't mention "community" specifically, everything he says fits squarely with a community building strategy. Here a summary of the nuggets I gleaned: • Change is Constant • Change Is Subject To Constants The things that do not change tend to push change. It's easier to predict change by looking at what doesn't change. An example of this is our constant desire for easier alternatives as humans; that trait that doesn't change is one of the biggest reasons we are pushed to make other things change. • Evolution and Adaptation To survive in this ever changing world, there's the need to constantly reinvent. It's a law wired into nature. • Role of Tech Tech is a constantly accelerating vehicle for impact. • Evaluate Examine your Current/Desired Creative Enterprise Find Ways to Leverage Technology in that Field • "Build Tents not Houses" Strive to be flexible and adaptable always! . . It was one of those "nice problems" to have but at the same time, a very serious problem. While we were at the Engage conference, during peak times, we'd have 30+ people around our booth, either checking out our booth experience or getting a product demo from us. Problem was the Wifi. During peak hours, everyone was on the hotel wifi that our web app wouldn't load! Doesn't matter how good of an app it is; if it's laggy, it's a bad experience. This happened while Jia Ni was giving a live demo to 10+ people 😓 At first, we thought it was a problem with our platform. We later learned it was the hotel Wifi. Not many options to fix that... so we moved all demos during peak times to our personal hotspot. Fortunately, that fixed the issue and we were able to continue giving demos ⛵ Great piece written by Matthew Duong. A very real yet unexpected problem at the conference.
