Like many architectural studios, we find it challenging to allocate time to our website. However, with the invaluable support of our talented artists/collaborators, video and film-maker Valentin Milou, and photographer Fernando Janvier Urquijo, we've made progress. Below is a preview of our new landing page for the coming weeks, sharing a selection of beautifully combined images from cultural projects in France, Vietnam, and Singapore. With over two decades of buildings across Europe and Asia to upate, and an expanding heritage, public, and residential project portfolio, the website overhaul is going! A special acknowledgment goes to the talented young architect and designer, Menghua Yin, who is kindly giving extra time to support the task, with her trained eye for what works well and where. studioMilou Singapore and Vietnam #Frencharchitecture #gooddesign #valentinmilou #fernandojavierurquijo #architecture #architecturalphotography #nationalgallerysingapore #culturalprojects #urbandesign #jeanfrancoismilou #denzeen #architecturedaily https://lnkd.in/gk-BpF5e

🌱💡 Maximizing Efficiency in Building Design: The Power of Value Engineering 💡🏗️ In an era where #sustainability and #resourceoptimization are paramount, the construction industry faces a crucial challenge: how can we build smarter, greener, and more economically? Enter #valueengineering - a game-changer in the quest for efficiency and innovation. In #Malta, where resources are precious and waste shouldn't be an option, value engineering takes on even greater significance. By reimagining building design through the lens of value engineering, we can minimize waste, reduce environmental impact, and maximize the efficient use of resources. Also, by optimizing designs to achieve higher performance with lower costs, #structuralengineering also holds an important key to unlocking substantial #carbonsavings. Every kilogram of material saved, every ounce of energy conserved, contributes to a greener, more sustainable future for our planet. And let's not forget the bottom line. In an industry where #profitmargins can be tight, good engineering offers a strategic advantage. By streamlining processes, minimizing unnecessary expenses, and enhancing project efficiency, we're not just building better buildings - we're also boosting profitability for developers and stakeholders alike. Let's work together to build a brighter, more sustainable future for Malta and beyond! 🌍💼 #ValueEngineering #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #ResourceOptimization #Profitability #MaltaConstruction #CarbonSavings #InnovationInDesign

Do I truly do what I’m meant to do, or am I following a path that isn’t mine? This question has lingered in my mind lately, prompting me to reflect on my journey in architecture and urban planning. Is this my true calling, or is it time to explore something new? When I look back, I realize there was no single moment of clarity that led me here. It was a gradual evolution—a natural progression into a field where logic, comfort, and art converge. Time flies when I’m solving complex problems and crafting spaces that people will love. It’s challenging, yet deeply fulfilling work. What makes this profession unique is the balance it demands: between rules and creativity, individuality and collaboration. With my Slavic background, I often spot nuances in Norwegian regulations—well-intentioned rules that sometimes miss their mark. This tension, navigating the gaps between regulations and artistic freedom, is where the heart of architecture lies. Every project is a new world to explore. The details—the location, connections, materials—all shape the final design. Yet, creativity always meets its first challenge in the form of a budget, the ultimate “wings cutter.” Balancing practicality, sustainability, and client desires is no easy task, especially when navigating regulations born from hard-earned lessons. At its core, architecture is about creating meaning. Even under the weight of compromises, it must never lose its essence. #ArchitectureDesign #UrbanPlanning #CreativeProcess #ProfessionalGrowth

Embarking on a journey in construction means signing up for a whirlwind of experiences - some exhilarating, some challenging, but all ultimately rewarding. There are days when the sun seems to shine a little brighter on our projects, where everything falls seamlessly into place, and progress feels like a triumph. Yet, in equal measure, there are days where obstacles arise unexpectedly, where plans encounter roadblocks, and the path forward appears daunting. But here's the thing: amidst the highs and lows, the heart of what we do remains steadfast - our unwavering passion for construction. It's a love affair with the process, the craftsmanship, and the tangible impact we make on the world around us. Every challenge we encounter becomes an opportunity to innovate, problem-solve, and grow. It's in overcoming these hurdles that we truly showcase the resilience and determination inherent in our industry. And when we reflect on the day's trials and triumphs, there's an undeniable sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing we've contributed to something greater than ourselves. So, to all my fellow construction enthusiasts out there, let's embrace every twist and turn this journey brings. Let's celebrate the victories, learn from the setbacks, and keep pushing forward with passion and purpose. Together, we'll continue to build a world we can be proud of. #ConstructionJourney #ChallengesAndRewards #PassionDriven #BuildingTheFuture

I once asked a question here, something like "Could great architecture transform a place like China? Could a democracy spread or overcome an autocracy because the design of buildings and places were so thoughtfully designed and comprehensive that the people it served realized a better way of life could be attained in a fair and open society? My thoughts are clearer now. The architecture being made in Turkey, in China, in America, in Brazil, in Vietnam, in Australia, in Africa, everywhere, is of such a high quality that I have some advice to offer all governments across the planet. Learn from your architects. Understand their process for making and designing, who they design for, learn the word biophilic, and change or improve your governing style accordingly, selflessly. Get going.

𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙤𝙤𝙣 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚! 🙋♂️ Continuing our discussion on 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 article I've posted today early , let's explore a fascinating case study. **Case Study: The Building that Melted Cars** The "Walkie-Talkie" skyscraper in London caused unexpected issues like melting cars and dangerous downdrafts. These problems highlight challenges in managing risks in construction projects. 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙍𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙚: - Its curved, reflective glass exterior focused sunlight into a beam, damaging cars. - The design created downdraft winds, endangering pedestrians. - Won the "Carbuncle Cup" for "Worst Building of the Year" in 2015. 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠: - 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠𝙨: - Structural integrity, safety compliance, resource availability, environmental impact. - 𝙐𝙣𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣-𝙐𝙣𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙨: - Solar convergence, downdraft effects, user interaction. 𝘿𝙚𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮: - 𝙋𝙧𝙤: - Innovation necessitates risk, value of unique aesthetics, learning opportunities. - 𝘾𝙤𝙣: - Due diligence, responsibility to public safety, balancing creativity and practicality. 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙨: - Won the "Carbuncle Cup" for its negative reception. - Issues like solar convergence and downdraft winds illustrate unexpected consequences. - Similar problems in other iconic buildings. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣: Effective risk management in construction balances creativity with thorough planning. Innovation drives architectural advancement, but it's essential to mitigate potential hazards to ensure public safety and project success.
