DAY 2 After 10 extraordinary years as an associate of #RemKoolhaas /@OMA and founding an agency in 2014 called [#cba], then finally 10 structuring years for the agency, we are embarking on our third decade! Celebrating 10 years is a work of achievement and #memorabilia, a project aimed at taking stock of the years gone by and #reinventing ourselves. For the celebration, [cba] collaborated with Anne Sedel, an artist who works on materializing #memory. She explores memories that can be held in a hand, like a #telephone, and put in a pocket. This leads to ‘THE HERE&NOW’ #experience. In a world of acceleration, we propose an exhibition suggesting a step back. What is the relationship between the creative world of [cba] and Anne's compositions of handheld memories? A walk through our #laboratory at 15 Villa Seurat main office is guided by selected #images and motivated by questions about continuous dialogue between the two worlds. Each wall is a #canvas, where a constellation of projects that have underwent a loss of scale and of #architectural references gradually takes shape. It creates an #introspective documentary, combining #images of the studio process and the artist's attempts to exhaust moments. THE HERE & NOW experience, fragments of life in #images: #drawings, #models, and #collages are the doors of time that open onto the present moment. They say every project is a unique endeavor but also every sector has their own challenges when running projects.     Thanks to Hypsos - standbouw - interieur - brand experience - museuminrichting - world events , I had the privilege of working on #museumprojects with Heide Agne. Below are the biggest challenges I observed regarding these projects.    Budget Blowouts: Museum projects are notorious for going over budget. Unexpected costs pop up all the time—whether it's the price of rare materials, advanced tech for exhibits, or unforeseen construction challenges. Design vs. Functionality: The struggle is real between making a museum look stunning architecturally and ensuring it works for the exhibits. A beautiful design might end up not having enough wall space, or special lighting requirements can clash with the architect’s vision. Artifact Preservation: Keeping historical pieces in perfect condition is a massive challenge. Special climate controls, humidity regulation, and even the right materials for walls and floors are critical—and costly. Getting this wrong can cause serious damage to valuable artifacts. Too Many Cooks: From donors and curators to city officials and architects, everyone has a say. But not everyone agrees. Aligning everyone's expectations often slows the project down or forces changes at the last minute. Permits and Red Tape: Museums usually involve historical preservation, which means tons of regulations and permits. Getting approvals can take ages and cause frustrating delays, especially if the site is of cultural or historical significance. These can make museum projects a real challenge to manage! Sharing with you guys, the article that I had the pleasure of writing for an incredible virtual magazine last year. It was about Architecture and sustainable heritage. “Architecture and Sustainable Heritage are related to the preservation of the environment, but also to the sustainable development of cities and the sense of belonging of communities. Maintaining material heritage, such as a building, requires techniques and knowledge that by preserving a building you are positively impacting the sustainable development of a city as well. It is necessary knowledge so that the buildings are always receiving maintenance and renovation, to guarantee a longer life of the construction. Sustainable development also helps to prevent unbridled urban expansion, which sometimes occupies areas that should be preserved, such as forest areas, riverbanks, and slopes, for example. In this way, by encouraging Heritage and Sustainable Development, cities can keep their history alive and help so that in the future the urban impacts that the environment suffers are less aggressive than they have been over all these years.”

From above, it’s hard to tell where the building ends and the landscape begins. 🌿 The green roof merges with the surrounding environment, almost like the structure has become a natural part of the land. But it doesn’t just cover the building—it restores the space the structure once claimed, giving back to the earth with a living, breathing surface. Returning a piece of the landscape ensures that buildings work with nature, not against it. I see this point discussed quite a bit in the area of architectural photography. People in the frame or no? There are good arguments for and against. It can add some life to the frame, but it can also distract from the point of the image. For me, that means the answer nobody likes: "it depends..." :-) Every image is meant to convey some message, tell some story. Which approach enhances the story? Then you know if people should be there or not.
