Celebrations are in order this week, as we welcome the first wine of the year from the French Beaujolais region at The Mulwray. Beaujolais Nouveau, a young Gamay grape wine from Beaujolais, is one of the few wine varieties that is enjoyed in the same year it’s produced—with Beaujolais Nouveau Day marking the first day it hits shelves. This Thursday, November 21st, our fantastic Isabelle and Shefali from the wine team at The Blue Posts will be pouring this year’s delicious Beaujolais Nouveau and other favourite bottles from the region in our little corner of Soho. A big shout-out to Assistant Bar Manager Maya from The Blue Posts for designing the poster for the event. We’re ready to raise a glass (or two) and toast to the season—hope to see you there! 🥂 Book your table here. https://lnkd.in/eq-gHygV

Why is the UK so far behind on wine formats? Boxed wine is 60% of the wine market in Sweden. 44% of supermarket wine sales in France are boxed. In the UK? Bag-in-box is no more than 8% of the market. Why? There’s a simple answer to this (I think): The Swedes are renowned for their commitment to sustainability. The French are famously fond of understatement. Us Brits? Clinging steadfastly to our own traditionalism. We’re the country with the most visible monarchy in the world. A decent chunk of the population live in houses that are older than some countries, and aren’t permitted to do much modernising to them. We argue fiercely about whether it’s jam or cream first. (Jam, obv.) There are endlessly discussions over what is proper, when drinking tea or champagne, to do with one’s little finger. (Fun (possible) fact: Apparently the first people in history to raise their pinkies while drinking tea were prostitutes, signalling their availability. Impressionable, elegant young ladies copied, not understanding. The rest is history. Think of that, next time you see the vicar slurping his tea with aplomb.) We are a country obsessed with how things should be done. And, of course, a connection to history and tradition is important. But, also, times have changed. Sustainability isn’t just a nice idea - it’s an imperative, if we have any hope of settling the state of this planet. There is, certainly, a place for that beautiful glass bottle that has sat in your cellar gathering dust, just for that significant moment when you can blow it off and make some feel special. But there is also a place for a beautiful box of wine. And, restauranteurs, that place is proudly displayed on your back bar, and tempting people from your bottle fridge. We're starting new traditions over here. Laylo #boxedwine #wine #b2b #sustainability #restaurantmanagement #barmanagement #disruptor

As we are all about to take off for the long weekend, consider celebrating all things local. Here are some ideas: 1. Go to a local farmers market to get your food. Local produce and meats are so much better than what you get at the store 2. Go to a local winery to grab the best bottle(s) of VQA wine to pair with the food you just purchased. Did you know that the food we grow locally tends to pair well with the local wine that is grown and made near by? www.winecountryontario.ca #100milediet 3. Seek out local arts and culture. In Niagara we have so many options, like the Shaw Festival 4. Go to a local restaurant or coffee shop. These small businesses are using the local ingredients mentioned above and carrying local wines and craft beers etc. One of my fav's is the Garrison House in Niagara on the Lake.... but trust me there are thousands of options. 5. Look for a local festival or event. This weekend is Canal days in Port Colborne. Rotary Rib Fest in St. Catharines is also a lot of fun if you need your fill of smoked meat. Live music is usually at all of these events. 6. Most of all Support Local. We are a world class region/country with so many local offerings. Lastly, do all of this responsibly. Be safe and have a great weekend!

One of my favorite things to do is to visit wineries. I love every single thing about going…the drive to it, the people, usually the wine (hard to find bad wine in either Napa or Sonoma). Between the rolling vineyards and that perfect glass of wine in hand, it's easy to get swept up in the charm of these iconic wine regions. Let's be real for a moment—some frustrating realities can turn your ideal wine-tasting day into a mess or less than stellar experience. Here's a list of a few things you might want to prepare for before venturing into wine country. https://lnkd.in/g-x_76_X

Let's dive into the basics of commonly used wine glasses! 🍷 Discover the difference between red wine glasses, white wine glasses, champagne flutes, and champagne saucers. Remember: size matters—the red wine glass is bigger than the white wine glass. This was my second year at the Austin Food & Wine Festival and it’s always incredible to see the community come together to celebrate our city’s amazing food scene. Austin is mecca for foodies, and our chefs are getting the recognition they deserve with our very own Michelin Guide arriving later this month. But as our food culture grows we’re seeing real challenges in the retail market with demand still far outpacing supply. For example, a few 2nd generation restaurant spaces came available recently around South 1st and South Lamar and they were essentially leased overnight around double the rent of the previous tenant. As we continue to attract and cultivate top culinary talent, it’s crucial to consider how we can develop more viable retail spaces throughout the city. #AustinFoodScene #CommercialRealEstate #RestaurantIndustry #RetailRealEstate #AustinEats #MichelinGuide #CulinaryCulture #RealEstateTrends #HospitalityIndustry #RestaurantGrowth

As Steve Martin yelled, "The new phone book is here!" In my case, it's the latest issue of SOMM Journal, publishing my usual Bottom Line column. This time around, on how small, smart, focused, food-centric wines lists should be considered just as prestigious as gigantic ones that lists wines just for the sake of having them listed or winning "grand" awards. Now more than ever, makes sense for restaurants, aspiring sommeliers (who want to keep their jobs) and, most importantly, guests. #restaurantlife #restaurantwine #sommelierlife #sommjournal #winelist #hospitalityindustry #HospitalityManagement #sommelierbusiness #sommelierdreams #winelist #foodandbeverage #foodandbeverageindustry

France is one of the best wine making countries in the world if not the whole world. Ok I might be biased as I live in France, but it’s not an unfounded claim – just think Chateauneuf du Pape, Provence rosé, Petrus, Bordeaux, Burgundy and many more famous wines of France. Our French wine guide will reveal the history and legends of French wine, and how to drink the French way – from swirling the glass to how to say cheers!
